animesource (08/02/2015) [-] What you describe sounds more like slice-of-life anime. There are plenty of good series that happen in real world without any magic, demons, or superpowers. For example, Zankyou no Terror, Barakamon. Although a lot of them tend to be moe and/or romances. Yeah, i deleted my sentence saying no slice of life for me. I really dont like the character tropes, especially tsundere and moe, i feel like describing a person with one word only is bullshit. and the wanton groping without consent that is see all the damn time infuriates me as my sister was sexually assaulted that way multiple times and i dont like the idea of it happening, let alone find it entertaining. Also, like i said i pretty much need a sense of urgency, I watch anime so that i can see firefights in cool urban landscapes, hear drama about serious global shit going down and how the people are going to stop it. i follow the hero on its way to do whatever in really any setting so long as it doesnt have the pace of people just living their lives, unless its the hero who is so badass all of the fighting he does mentally or physically, i dont care. A political anime can be good imo if its paced properly. is just another day in the office, though problem with that is the character tends to be overladen with plot armor and thats no fun. and I dont mind character interaction at all, its just when its nothing but character interaction with no growth or plot progression and the only things that happen happen because the characters want them to, except for the five trope episodes that every anime of its genre has that i get mad or bored. I was able to watch Sora no Otoshimono because of its pacing and introduction of new elements, by the time i started to get bored with how things were going something changed or was added, i just stopped watching. i think that Barakamon wouldnt really entertain me the way i want to be, as for Zankyou no Terror, im going to watch that right now as i love its director duh , but i will say alternate history is some of the most entertaining stuff ever read The Clockwork Century novels by Cherie Priest for some ace alternate history deiselpunk set around the 1860s Thanks for listening to me whine and not being salty in return. Now if only i could find something good that isnt set in japan... #114 -
animesource (08/02/2015) [-] I see... These days those situations are a bit more common since it boosts sales. May I also suggest Zetsuen no Tempest? It is set in Japan but I believe you're going to like it. However if you insist on non-Japan setting that's a bit hard... There is Hellsing that takes place in England. Chrno Crusade takes plane in New York, but I doubt you will like this one. Also Phantom: Requiem for the Phantom, but probably not your type either. Sweet, thanks for saving me the hours of watching shit to get here. #116 -

animesource (08/02/2015) [-] Maybe you could give more details on what you like / dislike? Maybe list of your favourite anime series? Any time period, i dont like the 'One man against the world' story trope, if there is fighting it better be well choreographed. My perfect anime would be a mecha, but only is its on a civilian level, police, militia, or just a mad scientist. Intellectual girl is best girl. As for favorite anime: Princess Mononoke I shant dissect it Akira any anime that gives me a thought induced headache after the second viewing is great. Appleseed Drum and Bass is my shit, guns are my shit, sci-fi is my shit, cybernetics are my shit, and the story is great as well. Samurai Champaloo Story wasnt cookie cutter, the protagonists didnt have plot armor as hard as most, dem fights, dem music, and the dialogue didnt feel like i lost anything in translation, in both the sub and dub. Cowboy Bebob Cowboy Bebop Death Note A good thought fight is as good as a good gun fight, logical plot armor to a nice extent. unique story, and dem music. Great character development No Game No Life nice thought action, nice story, got hyped Log Horizon The fights are meh, but the rules of the game are described well and adhered to, good character development, good thought action, but got boring a bit after the middle of the season and only picked up for the last few episodes. moe Appleseed Alpha Same great stuff that was in Appleseed, but the story doesnt have as much polish and it didnt feel as good both during and after watching it. Just a bit too far with the tech level, but thats just a setting problem. Rideback was looking good until the "you and your mech are linked" trope came into play, and then it was meh. As for my distastes: School Days Boring, meaningless dialogue for so fucking loooong, just for a meh yandere. was fun to laugh at the protagonist and all of his mistakes, though that could have just been the weed and friend that actually got me through it. Sword Art Online that guy protagonist, not enough elaboration on the game and its rules early on and just felt like they were excuses to do stuff later on. Rape as a story arc is not fun viewing. fights were meh. I also want to mention a few things: Maria the Virgin Witch has some cool shit, its armor, and fights are the most accurate i have ever seen and would make it so fun to watch if it wasnt for all of the faff that is its story, so i havent watched more than a few episodes. Terraformars would be cool if it wasnt maxi-racist, Attack on Titan is action packed, but would be more entertaining if it were sci fi. #121 -

animesource (08/01/2015) [-] Well, Ghost in the Shell isn't exactly reality. Did you mean non-fantasy anime? Also, why? Just because of it tries to obey majority of laws of physics doesn't make it bad. I was worried you would associate those two sentences. That first sentence was supposed to be a summary of how i go about looking for anime, and therefore what i have been exposed to mostly, i dont know what i thought i was addressing by saying it since it had nothing to do with the rest of the post. Its not that i dont like the laws of physics, i just dont know enough about japanese culture for translated modern banter to be entertaining, and the tropes kill me. I hate high school now, i hate overtly high pitched girl voices i mean the squeaky toy shit , i hate awkward humor and i dont like watching things that dont have a sense of urgency. #111 -

animesource (08/01/2015) [-] Ghost in the Shell had fanservice? I think Highschool DxD uses fan service quite well. On other hand To Love Ru has way too much pointless ecchi. Sora no Otoshimono is somewhere in the middle, sometimes acceptable, sometimes pointless. Haven't watched NGNL yet so no idea. Kiss x Sis has massive amounts of fanservice but it's all handled very well. gif unrelated. It's hentai. "Ghost in the Shell had fanservice?" You've never taken a look at Motoko's clothes? Unless one of my close friends brings it to me i wont watch anime set in reality out of habit now. No matter how much sense it makes world wise (referencing Ghost in the Shell), if you put a nude chick in your scene its fanservice, sorry if thats prejudiced. As for NGNL, i havent watched enough anime to say relatively how much fanservice there is, but there isnt too much, only really done to the point where i can recall it in one or two episodes, though the art style is kinda like HSTD-ish wherein it accents everyones assets a bit, otherwise, pretty good anime. I watched Sora no Otoshimono as until all of the mega shit started to go down in the last five or . six episodes, i was very surprised by how unique the plot was as far as i know and i agree with your appraisal of its fanservice. #71 -
