That's part of why we need to push for immediate change. We're not going to change the attitudes of the entire world by sitting around fiddling with our thumbs, it's only going to happen when people are actually forced to deal with the free market of ideas.
As of right now, people can just stick their fingers in their ears and hear what they want to hear. Only way to change that is to put everyone through an education system that forces them to debate ideas on their merits, force them to use logic and reason.
Forced change has backlashes our history us filled with that it's also why USA became what it is now you might want consider granule change is best option
The alternative is letting them do it on their own and nothing ever working out. Yes, we'll have backlashes, I don't think anyone on Earth would disagree with that. But it's necessary to push past that, because the only way we're going to bring humanity forward is by raising an entire generation (and all future generations) on ideals of tolerance, respect, and peaceful discourse while we wait for those holding more violent ideals to fade out of existence.
Using the Middle East as an example, there are people there who WANT a change to more Western Values, but it isn't happening, and in the mean time, there are people dying because of that. Taking our time won't change things any more effectively, but it will certainly waste a lot of energy, resources, and lives.
Just adding this too for consideration, I'm not suggesting forcing people to adopt one set of ideals or another, just that all children would go to school and be raised in an environment that questions all ideals, forces them to think critically, and ultimately help them form more intellectual opinions.
