fans like those used in computers naturally have a centra deadzone where the motor sits. This is overcome whent he fan is blowing because the blades force the air into a sort of spiral column that fills the space in front of the fan. If the fan is pulling air through it, it has no control over how the air enters the fan blades meaning the air enters from the sides and skips the middle deadzone alltogether.

Look at the diagram, the fan is up top and the intakes would be low down on the sides. As the fan pulls the air into the case as soon as it enters it is being immediately pulled straight upwards completely missing any components wheras if the fan blows down the fan can direct the air over the components and the positive pressure allows the air to leave wherever it wants to.

The other advantage of a top inake in this case is dust reduction. Since there is one intake you can easily add a dust filter to it and since it is positive inside pressure no dust is going to enter from any other cracks or holes.

Why would a fan blowing upwards not have a dead zone? I thought the diagram was pretty clear why there would be...

Also like you said, to save space, that's basically it.

The dead spot under the motherboard is where the HDD and SDD are, that's why they didn't put a fan there, did you not look at the post or what?

Wait what, what are you talking about?
You want the fan under the motherboard?
User avatar #139 - ChewyConor (18 hours ago) [-]
If a fan at the top of the unit can blow enough air downwards to cool the system, then a fan mid or low down in the unit can make the same (but reversed direction) airflow with much less effort and no dead zone. Any benefit you'd get from having more components blown on more directly by the airflow would be negated by the fact that you'll get less heat to escape trying to force it out the sides.
The only reason I can see to put a fan at the top is to save space.
There's a dead spot under the motherboard with their current set up so why not put the fan there?

the force of a fan blowing the air down is way more powerfull than the physics of heat rising.

and as commented they describe why it is better to have the fan liek that in this case.
User avatar #170 - theincorrigibleone (16 hours ago) [-]
In SFF cases it doesn't even matter where the fans are or where the air is being pushed as the pressure from the fans keeps the air moving in the direction the fans want it to. Yes, in a larger, more open, case you would preferably want the hotter air to be pushed out the top, but again it's still not a necessity. In low to medium grade rigs you'll still only see a difference of 1-5 degrees (centigrade).

Stop acting like you're the expert in this stuff when you didn't even read through the diagrams show how little extra space there actually is inside that case. It's got essentially one channel for the air to move in instead, like a larger case, two to four areas of intake and one or two exhaust. The air comes in the top, is immediately channeled through a single fan into another single fan and then exhausted. No dead space. No room for it to move.
#135 - sugoi (18 hours ago) [-]
Maybe if you actually read the damn thing.
User avatar #136 - ChewyConor (18 hours ago) [-]
I did, its still retarded. Just put the fan centrally low down in the unit pointing upwards to remove the dead air zone.
The 'conventional ventilation' problem is only a problem with passive ventilation without a fan.

if water becomes a paid comodity it would become much easier to manage it and reduce waste.
If we ensure the minimum as the right and the rest turn into a comodity, we literally will make people think twice before wasting water (that is actually not free - you can drink from a lake if you wish, noone's going to arrest you, but if clean water in your home requires expenses).
User avatar #417 - kaiserdjg (03/23/2015) [-]
Actually what he said was that water is a commodity like any other and should be paid for, now the fact that companies are draining all the local fresh water sources and bottling them so we have to pay them instead of our usual regular water company is wrong, no one owns the water and only treating and pumping it should be paid for not the water itself, as it falls outta the fucking sky
User avatar #425 - ChewyConor (03/23/2015) [-]
Google it. He said that the basic 30 litres of water should be free if you can't afford it.

Its only wrong if that bottled water is sourced from the only water supply and completely drains it, which has never happened. If it rains go get a bucket and fill it up and hey free water.
If you want water that has been cleaned and treated then you should pay a fair price for it.
Also, free water encourages wastage and unnecessary usage and is just as wrong.
