The whole movie was about how 2 children, basically the same growing up in the same place could have 2 completely different lives. How we can live next to people and not really care about their lives. And the german boy going into the gas chamber shows how horrific it is if these things happened to people that we know and love.

I'm not one for saying we need an Israel, poor Jews look at all they have had to put up with. I'm just merely reading a book about how terrible it was to be in a concentration camp and what these people had to put up with compared to people growing up a few hundred yards.

I'd totally read such a great book about Arabian people. And as i say one of the key points of the book was the contrast between the childhood of the German boy and the Jewish boy. What one took for granted the other couldn't dream of. Living just a few yards from each other but not being able to imagine how the other was living.

Division of people is very interesting and if you don't read about the past how can you hope to learn for the future?

well i agree there is alot to look back and learn from, but in some cases just because a member of a foreign race achieves something does not award acclaim to the race as a whole, in some cases an individual may achieve something beneficial to the world while the majority of their people bring counter-productive acts which only pull the world backwards

well i guess that's up to you what you take from the book, film. From memory it doesn't force these views upon you and if you take it just t face value it's a brilliant film/ book. Really sad but at the same time interesting

the people who made the movie wanted yet another pity party for jews, but instead of making another movie depicting germans as monsters, they just made it that a regular family man who does his duty, has karma bite him in the ass and makes him lose his son

my russian flatmate and i thought it was shit, because even as a non-war movie, they could have done better
the only reason my flatmate watched it was because his girlfriend loves karma movies, and forced him to watch
i didnt really watch, i was cooking my dinner and saw tiny bits and i still think it was shit

im definitely not gonna watch it

the movie is amazing, the boy actor does a terrific job and the story is truly heartbreaking. The book is equally thought provoking
