That's the thing, they aren't aware that they exist like that, their entire life will seem to them like non-dreaming sleep seems to us; not just without sensations, but completely blank, as if it never happened.

"The human brain one kind of creeps me out, imagine if those brains had consciousness or something."

"imagine if those brains had consciousness or something."

"imagine"

They probably have some vague form of consciousness, but without senses they'd never be aware of what anything is, they aren't even aware of existence itself, their thoughts would be equivalent to white noise.

I completely get that, but that half of what creeps me out. Imagine existing like that. Someones entire life is just in complete limbo.

That would be impossible.

Could you explain why? I think I understand why, but I'd still like confirmation.
#47 - elpinguinloco (09/06/2014) [-]
Several reasons. Most importantly it's just not big enough, lacks capacity. Also it couldn't possibly be developed enough, both technically and temporally. Thirdly, there is no possible way in which glial cells could have formed myelin sheaths around important axons, and even if they could, the important structures would be missing. There's more, but don't wanna go into to much detail.
Also, consciousness implies self-awareness. These things do not receive input from anything, they don't function. They cannot process the outside (or anything really, but even if they could, they would not be able to define boundaries and therefor would never become aware of the self in relation to the other, super simple stuff).

These things were made to study neurological defects and abnormalities. It's purely a physiological thing. It's not meant to work, it's mean to grow and become deformed, so that we can see how, where and when certain cells CAN deform. It's got nothing to do with functionalism.

Source: I've studies this shit for 5 years now. Pic is an anatomically correct brain model I use literally every day, and some random old uni books about the brain.

never had to worry about animal or insect attacks i live in scotland but i always feel bad when i here about dogs passing because of it because most dogs just want a play and it can end up being fatal :/
User avatar #50 - BubsyB (08/15/2014) [-]
over here in Australia the stereotypes are quite true unfortunately. The wound was on her rear thigh so we imagine she never knew the snake was there in the first place and copped a bite when she was galloping past with her sister.
