We'll see.

I'm betting the Wii U will either allow DLC or not have many popular third party titles though.

What can the third-party titles lose by being on Wii U? They still make money, and a lot of people will buy them for the new controls (the touch-pad thing on the WiiU is easier to use than Kinect in terms of Mass Effect 3).

You are entirely ignoring my point just to argue against DLC...

ALMOST ALL MAJOR GAME DEVELOPERS PUT DLC IN THEIR GAMES. (Regardless of whether one is to consider this practice good or bad.)

NINTENDO HAS DECLARED THAT THE WII U WILL HAVE NO DLC.

THEREFORE, MAJOR GAME DEVELOPERS WILL NOT DEVELOP FOR WII U.

It is entirely irrelevant whether DLC is good or bad, the point is that most big releases have DLC (As I listed in the last comment).
They aren't about to stop releasing DLC just because Nintendo disapproves, so there are three options.
1. Those developers will simply not publish for the Wii U (Most of their target audience has other consoles anyway).
2. Those games will be released on Wii U without DLC (While this wouldn't be an issue for crap DLC like SR3, for games with DLC that's actually good, it would be regrettable. This would also reduce Wii U game sales as some people actually like DLC.)
3. Those games with DLC will only be released on Wii U well after they are published, and will have all the DLC included, like in complete editions. (Possible, but if they wouldn't be releasing it on Wii U for months after the release date, they would probably not get many Wii U sales, so why bother making it for the console in the first place?)

I'm not ignoring your point. You're saying games either won't be released on Wii U or won't sell well because of DLC, and I'm saying DLC isn't a huge part of a game, therefore the games will sell just as good as any other console. I don't see why people will only buy a game on a different console just because there's exclusive DLC, which might not even appeal to them. Plus, Nintendo have fantastic franchises which have been ignored recently because of graphical competition, but now the Wii U is being released they'll be appreciated. Ninty have their own games which people will undoubtedly buy.

I never said that.
However Dark Souls has DLC
Skyrim has DLC
Borderlands has DLC
Mass Effect has DLC
Dragon Age has DLC
CoD has DLC
Battlefield has DLC
GTA has DLC
Saints Row has DLC
EVERYTHING has DLC.

If Nintendo won't let Wii U games have DLC, most big third party games will either not be on the Wii U, or they will not have a significant amount of their content available.

Also, paid DLC =/= ripping off. It often is (CoD and Saints Row the Third for example), but other times, it's actual expansions (Skyrim and GTA, for which TBoGT was considered better than the main game).
User avatar #92 - Blue Blur (09/22/2012) [-]
DLC may make the game slightly better (with the exception of expansions) but they aren't necessary as the game itself should be good on its own. If a game needs DLC to be good, why bother making the game in the first place? And this has all been said before the Wii U was announced, so maybe Nintendo has changed its mind now that it's a contender in the *sigh* flame war.

If they don't have DLC, they will just have shit third party support again since EVERYONE does DLC these days.
User avatar #88 - Blue Blur (09/22/2012) [-]
DLC doesn't make a game good, the game does (which is obvious). Free DLC is fine, but I completely agree with them that the consumer shouldn't have to make excessive payments after they've already bought the product. Other companies can learn from that.

They aren't against DLC, just DLC that should have already been in the game.
I read somewhere that they may have DLC for a Mario game like extra levels or something and that it might be free.

Don't quote me on this though, I'm not sure.

That's not so bad, as it's free. They're against paid DLC, for sure as they don't want to make the customer make excessive payments for what they should already have.
