I have 4 monitors at work - I NEED the real estate. At any given point in time I've got multiple RDP sessions open to the servers I support, console interfaces open to the switches and storage arrays I support, email, interoffice communicator, ticketing system, web browser for research, white papers, documentation I am either using or creating.....what is the benefit of only ONE???

Well for coding it's super nice to have what you're working on on one monitor and then references on another monitor.
Same works for some games. Like if you're playing an RPG then on your second monitor you could put up the build you're working to, or just a guide. I think Battlefield had a thing where you could put have the game on one monitor and then a big map overview on another.
For browsing/gaming it's nice to have youtube/netflix on the second monitor. Especially for Grindy games. I played a lot of RuneScape and a second monitor was the key to not going insane from the grind.
Lots of other small stuff.
One monitor becomes frustrating and even claustrophobic after some time with multiple monitors.

Like I said, don't know dick about comic books, like, at all, was too poor to follow comics as a kid, if I look up to find Amazing Spider-Man, is it like watching a TV series, a beginning point and subsequent chapters that overlay one large plot, or is it like, interchangable, it doesn't matter what order you read it in?

Personally I enjoy the Spider-man 2099 run but that's not Peter Parker. Might wanna try the Morlun run, that was freaking cool, and just read the story from there on (it's about Peter fighting mystical creatures all hunting him while a mysterious person called Ezekiel lends Peter a hand). I think that arc ends just after "Evolve or Die" so it's a pretty long run.
