But why should we always treat EA so poorly? Other companies have done the same and worse, but we always just bash EA into the ground before they even get a chance to fix their mistakes. It's even worse when they actually try fixing their mistakes such as the free Extended Cut DLC for ME3 and the free game reparation for the mildly poor launch of SimCity and still get insulted.
#31 - VincentKing (04/24/2013) [-]
Well you seem to be angry at the company as a whole, not the individual departments responsible. Yes, there is an error within the game that can stop you from playing, but it worked on the player testing consoles, so they weren't to know about that. In return, people pirate the games instead. EA loses money and has to close a few of the low profit sections, and more people get pissed at EA and demand a refund. If they don't get said refund, they pirate again.
In short, expect errors in the first release set of games, and blame pirates for games closing down.
#33 - krystalkitty (04/24/2013) [-]
Piracy has nothing to do with games closing down. EA just wants you to think that so they can justify putting more DRM into their games and selling poorly developed titles at full price along with day 1 DLC. So no, do not blame pirates. Blame EA for being greedy.
Expect errors? No. I don't expect errors when I buy a game on release date. I expect that game to be perfectly playable without any game breaking bugs.
#37 - VincentKing (04/24/2013) [-]
I don't expect you to start loving the company, but everyone works as hard as they can, and when you are faced with a deadline, some things get overlooked. Look at Sonic 06, it had a lot of errors and crap, and they made it in just a few months. People still like it though, they just had to look past the first initial impression.
#70 - schwerdaddy (04/24/2013) [-]
Are you being serious right now? You can't feel sympathy because sometimes its hard for EA to meet deadlines given to them. EA, as a publisher, sets those unrealistic deadlines for the smaller studios in order to cash in as soon as possible rather than to develop a better game. For example, Visceral Studios got fucked when having to abide by EA's rules because they couldn't release a game at maximum quality and, in turn, the Dead Space franchise is dead (no pun intended). They spent millions of dollars advertising because they wanted to make up for the fact that their game wasn't that good on its own (because their own restrictions) and required 5,000,000 sales. How fucking cocky and stupid can you get to say that your game is a failure if it doesn't sell that high of a number?

EA is the last company I'd expect to be working as hard as they can. The fact is this: they DON'T. All they care about is making as much profit as possible while putting in as little effort as necessary per game. There are dozens of reasons as to why people hate EA so much, and why a company like Valve gets so much praise compared to them.
As for sonic 06, how can people even stand that abomination? It's a complete insult to the sonic series and helped to nearly kill the franchise along with sonic the werehog and sonic and the black knight. Absolutely horrible games.
#43 - VincentKing (04/24/2013) [-]
I didnt really mind them. Yes they aren't the typical sonic games, but the stories of them were rather nice. The storybook ones led you into a new style of old stories, while werehog levels were annoying, it was nice to see them do something new with Sonic (since fans wanted a sonic only game based with both full on running and more creatures, I think they did well with it) Sonic 06, however, was meant to be completely different, with Silver having his own game.
#49 - krystalkitty (04/24/2013) [-]
The problem with those games isn't the stories, but the gameplay. Sonic 06 was clearly released as an incomplete game and had dozens of game breaking bugs, while the other two games were interesting in theory, but poorly done and rushed. I enjoyed the introduction of new characters like Blaze, but Silver really did seem like another Sonic clone, even more so than shadow.
Anyways, I'm hoping they'll make a Sonic Adventure 3 soon.
#50 - VincentKing (04/24/2013) [-]
well in japan, sonic unleashed was known as world adventure, and there was another sonic game afterwards which was something adventure (memories hazy) so in truth, we already had adventure 3, america just renamed it something different.
The chao gardens may never come back either, at least not for a while. They were designed as a way for people to link up the GBA and GC games, hoping to make extra sales through that advertisement, and making use of the gamecubes new linkage feature.
#56 - krystalkitty (04/24/2013) [-]
I remember spending hours being in the chao garden and playing the City Escape level over and over again to get enough items to power up my chao's. I'll never forget that song now~
Anyways, it's been nice talking with you but I think we should stop before people get annoyed at these giant walls of text. =p

a player testers console is made and set up differently. It wont always show the bugs as its been set up differently. DRM is made to make sure yo dont install a game on 1 computer, and make a copy of the disk and spread it to everyone you know. If you enjoy the game, your recommendation should be enough for your friends to play it.
Also you have to face it, every game has bugs and errors in it, unfortunately some people are given deadlines to create a game, and cant get to the point of fixing every single one.
And yes, I can blame the pirates, as it does slowly remove money from industries. If you enjoy the game, go out and buy it, if you don't, delete it. You should only pirate something to see if you like it first before purchasing it.
#39 - krystalkitty (04/24/2013) [-]
When I buy a game, I own it. DRM does nothing to prevent piracy, and overall simply gives EA a way to control products that I should be able to do whatever I'd like with. Plus, DRM is completely ineffective at dealing with piracy in the first place, as pirates can easily bypass it.
So extend the deadline and give the developers time to polish up the game so it's fit for release. That would be the obvious solution. But no, EA wants to make as much money as possible within a short amount of time. Sure I expect to find some bugs and errors in a game, but when something like the SimCity problems occurred, that is completely unacceptable.
Piracy will exist regardless of what you think of it or any companies think of it, however that isn't the point. EA has been constantly trying to justify poor game sales and other things on piracy, which is completely false. Instead of focusing on trying to improve the games themselves, they spend millions trying to prevent piracy (which ultimately fail) and overall burden their actual paying customers with DRM and poorly done games. So yes, you can blame pirates for piracy, but you can't blame them for why people don't buy EA's games.
#40 - VincentKing (04/24/2013) [-]
I agree, they should have more time, and they do push poorly made games, but they are still fun to play.
I would continue this conversation, but my chest hurts a lot, happens whenever I eat dry chicken. Ending statement, blame the higher ups, not the creators of the games.
#42 - krystalkitty (04/24/2013) [-]
So you're going to accept paying 79.99 for a deluxe edition game that was rushed out on release date and 80 dollars worth of hour long DLCs just to have some fun? No. Stop that. That is what is ruining the video game industry right now. Don't just accept mediocre. You're a paying customer.
I've never blamed the creators like Bioware for causing these problems, I've been blaming EA and their forced business practices.
Anyways, hope you feel better soon and thanks for the conversation.

Don't worry, I didn't take it as a 'pirate all games' thing. There are awesome games out there, and being honest, I only really get the Sims 3 games from EA.
Injustice is awesome, but to understand part of the back story, you need to get the new injustice comics, but apparently the comics are worth it. The story is a bit annoying that they actually used the multiverse theory as a part of it, meaning another universe joins in, would have been better to have just been that 1 universe.
#51 - krystalkitty (04/24/2013) [-]
That's another problem with EA. They buy popular companies and force you to pay them money and go through their horrible services like Origin to access that company's games.
Well I suppose they needed some way to create a storyline for Injustice without getting people mad that their favorite superhero turned evil/antihero, so I guess they just chose the multiverse route to make it easy.
