Look, are there dumb people out there? yes. but heres the thing there are dumb republicans, there are bigots and religious know it alls but when it comes down to it all most republicans are more moderate than they are conservative and its not that we hate minorities its that we hate illegal immigrants, personally i love immigrants, meeting new people and such but when they are here illegally thats costing all of us money when its so unnecessary, there is no legitimate quota that cuts off access to America, most republicans arnt even against gay marriage, we know that theres a separation of church and state, and legally theres no reason two men or women cant be married but some people just dont let that go because of their radical religion but that doesnt mean all of us do, there are plenty of examples but to save you time i wont list em, TL;DR Republicans not all bad

User avatar #98 - roflcopterkklol (06/03/2012) [-]
yeah, my argument is that they should just make up a new form of marriage call it something else and everyone who does not follow a religion can do it considering that is the only reason gay people can not get married.
Bible says marriage is between a man and a woman, people who follow the bible will not let that slide, so gay people can not get married.
call it something else, give it a new meaning "between a person and a person" (because fuck those animal fuckers they are not marrying dogs and shit) and boom, all problems solved.

but then that is still not equal because people are just generally fucking retarded.

On the topic of the churches teaching radically different topics, this one I can stare you in the face and tell you that you are flat out wrong, anything you have heard or read is wrong, as I have personally been to over 30 different wards, here and abroad, and they have yet to teach one thing different. So no, we dont.
As for temple garments, that is something that is symbolic, and it is asked of those who enter the Temple, and who are we to disagree with so simple a request made by God when entering His house?
Curse of Cain, I don't see what the problem is. The Curse was carried down and one of his descendants was on the boat that survived the Flood. I don't see what the problem is. Now on the topic of the inaccuracies, that's pretty general so I ask you to please give me some examples. I won't be able to help with all of them without research, as history is not my forte when it comes to the scriptures, but I should be able to explain most of them.

Do some churches teach polygamy though? I'm reading a book called "Under the Banner of God" which is an interesting look into a specific fundamentalist mormon church, that is heavy on polygamy. I have no idea whether the polygamy bit is Church or simply cultural tradition. Wonderful book though, if you're into documentary style books like that.

btw, thanks for a closer, more reliable source on the topic. There isn't a mormon population anywhere near where I live, so I don't have any primary sources.

It is not taught in the Book of Mormon. It really is not. That was a group of polygamists who HAPPENED to be Mormon, and as soon as it was found that they were practicing and teaching polygamy, it was specifically b& by the Church. We do not, nor have we ever, condoned polygamy as a religion.

Temple Garments?

The teachings of Mormonism are dated and flawed, just like Christianity. I respect your right to believe it, but it's far from perfect. And no, the Churches do teach radically different doctrines.

Because Mormonism has basically no flaws to it, no loop holes, no contradictions. That and we also have a more complete view of the Gospel, our teenagers know more about their religion than most adults know about their own respective religion, the Mormons teach the EXACT same doctrine in EVERY single branch, and every time someone tried to discredit our prophet, the information was proved beyond a shadow of a doubt to be falsified or forged. We also offer better explanations for things which other religions cannot.
User avatar #295 - Aiwatcher (05/25/2012) [-]
Are you okay with polygamy?

Because I think it's right. I can't say that I know other religions or wrong, but I simply do not see them as the most correct.
#258 - daburger (05/25/2012) [-]
Somewhat religious person here. Personally I think that the religions that worship a single deity in fact worship the same deity. Islam, Judaism and Christianity all pretty much originate from the same source in geography (the middle east) and from a single prophet (Muhammad, Moses, and Jesus.)

I don't think any of them are wrong, they all just worship in different ways.

Then there are "religions" such as Buddhism which really aren't religions but rather a philosophical way of life, which is completely respectable.

(I offer this gif to you my atheist friends.)

User avatar #290 - revanmal (05/25/2012) [-]
Islam, Judaism, and Christianity DO all pretty much worship the same god. They're known collectively as the Abrahamic religions, because they all include the story of Abraham, a prophet and patriarch os many human tribes. It's the details like the prophets and messiahs and dogma that make them so different.
#277 - zombielovez (05/25/2012) [-]
you are entirely incorrect in your beliefs of Buddhism and i find your near slander(though possibly not meant in such a way) as offensive
User avatar #294 - daburger (05/25/2012) [-]
Well buddhists technically do not believe in god(s) and are taught that gods were created in the minds of early humans because they needed comfort in times of fear. Maybe it's just my definition of what counts as a religion, but to me if you do not worship something it's not a religion

Its what I grew up with so that is my belief I guess, and in truth since it was more forced on me then choice I didn't have a right to choose. From recent events though I had a very godly experience so I have found my reason to believe in god, I guess you could say I have found my meaning to believe and thats all the truth I need because its my opinion alone not others
