America, land of the free.
Except people are scared to send their children to get the basic human right that is education.

Nobody is scared of that as your chance of getting killed in a school is less than 1 in a million

Education isn't a basic human right. It's something we've agreed upon, as a society, to provide to our children.

Basic human rights boil down to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
It's not so much your right to be educated as it is your right to pursue it.

Education is listed under the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, an international agreement that nearly every civilized country has signed.

Where I come from the right to education is listed under basic human rights.

"Protection of property, the right to an education and the right to free elections – protects against state interference with your possessions; means that no child can be denied an education and that elections must be free and fair."

Fair enough. I assumed you were American, my bad.

I'd like to then point out that not being denied an education is implied in our basic human rights: to deny someone the ability to pursue their education violates their liberty and pursuit of happiness. I just think it's a bit different than being guaranteed an education be provided to you.

I might seem a bit pedantic in drawing these distinctions. That's because this stuff really interests me and I hate to see Americans get it wrong.
