One issue has nothing to do with the other.... :/
I could go around his entire argument by suggesting that we create mini police stations in schools spreading police resources more efficiently, and creating zero need for gun talks or gay talks. >.>
Or bring up the fact that we ALREADY have dozens of drills concerning earthquakes, floods, fires, power outages, gas leaks, hurricanes, first aid with ALL of them stressing that the point of those drills is to save your life (not die). So a school shooting drill isn't out of the question unlike explaining to your kid what the hell those sickos in leather were doing to each other in public.
I'm just saying completely unrelated.
He's not saying that drills are bad, he's saying its bad that they're needed because insane people with guns can go on mass shootings in america fairly easily.
And in my experience much more straight people act intimate in public than gay people.
Once again, I've suggested two methods of explaining (or not) the situation) without telling the kid someone's going to kill him without traumatizing the child. He has no argument.
Secondly, **** no.... I LIVE around a higher concentration of gays than most people (being SF fag and all), and gay men are way more promiscuous than any straight couple. And god forbid you walk in on the gay pride stuff....
Pride parades are to gays as Westboro protests are to Christians. You can't judge an entire group based on a few people who take it too far.
Secondly Pride parades, with all their associated activities have a positive response from the LGBT community, Westboro does not getting counter protests wherever they go.
Apples and Oranges friend.
What you fail to realize is that we view pride parades the same way we view Westboro, they are nothing but obnoxious, over-the-top propaganda. Most of us actually hate pride parades, the only reason they get a positive response is because of liberal circle-jerks claiming they actually do any good.
And regarding the indecency issue, it is different virtually everywhere you go, and everybody has a different view on what is considered indecency. Where I live, it is a felony for two consenting adult males to have sex in the privacy of their own homes, and if somebody catches you you can get several years for committing "sodomy". If you get spotted holding hands with your lover in public, you're lucky not to get chased away by a mob of angry rednecks. I'm not saying they aren't overly promiscuous where you live, I'm just saying there's a much bigger world than your neighborhood shows and it's never the same everywhere you go.
Besides, who's to say it's not just because you're more used to seeing straight couples showing affection to each other than gay couples? For instance, everywhere I go, there always seems to be somebody talking about how much they would love to have sex with a certain female actor or how big the breasts were on that woman passing by. I can't relate to what they're talking about, so it seems more and more annoying to me, the same way you get annoyed by gay couples being together in public, it's entirely subjective and there is no common consensus on what is and what isn't decent.
While I agree with most of your comment in spirit.
I don't know where you live but it is my understanding that Sodomy laws are no longer enforceable in the US due to Supreme Court Decision in 2003.
They're on the books in some states, they're just unenforceable.
I was not aware of that, I could have sworn I read an article a week or two ago about a man who had appealed his sentencing from sodomy (a felony), to sexual misconduct ( a misdemeanor). Come to think of it, that's probably why he appealed it in the first place.
My other point about being chased by angry rednecks is pretty much truth, though, if exaggerated. I go to school with a bisexual guy with the most pronounced lisp I have ever heard from any man, gay or straight. He can't say a word without somebody somebody calling him a faggot and making a poorly though out joke about blowjobs. I can see where you're coming from with the whole thing about gays in your area, as it's the same with mine, but replace gays with hillbillies and you're set.
Westboro don't suck each other off in front of children, and as reprehensible as their message is they have a right to it as long as they follow some rules to prevent violence and indecency.
Gays get a lot more leeway concerning indecency.
