Essays that are assigned days, even weeks in advance, are meant to be made so they include, evidence, strong arguments and legitimately stand to change opinions.

In-class essays are graded mainly on grammar, and how well you can create an argument from limited resources.

My English Prof assigned an essay at the beginning of the semester. I planned out each step I was going to take a month before the due date and how I was going to be efficient and effective. I said, I'll start tomorrow literally every-single day from when I had planned to start to the night before it was due. In one night I banged out a 5000 word essay and got a 93%.

I feel really sorry for a lot of kids in school.
I had really damn good teachers. The kind who not only were paid to see you pass, but had a personal desire to see you pass, and gave up their personal time to make sure you were not only achieving goals, but exceeding them.
And then there are people whose teachers don't even turn up sober.

I wind up going anyway if I get called in,mostly because it's easier to put up with the teacher for an hour rather than have the principle bitch at me for a bit because I didn't go to a detention. But usually I do most of my essays n **** in like,30-40 minutes so it's usually not a problem.

Writing is best done in flow(at least for me), all my ideas are interconnected, easiest to put them all down at once(although it did give me a tendency to have essays that were 5 pages long, with about 4 sentences)

Being in college now, I feel like what teachers and professors look for in essays is proper formatting more than the contents of the essay itself. Just the other day my Communications teacher was going through my essay a page a second ticking off any kind of formatting errors he could find, though I doubt he actually looked at what I had written/

When I took English, I was lucky to have an amazing professor. On the final he made the essay portion optional, and replaced it with long answer questions. He stated that there will never be a time in your life where you are restricted to an hour to write an essay. He also claimed it wouldn't be practical to mark grammar nearly as hard because we didn't have time to revise and edit.

Great prof, made me think about how our whole schooling system works, like how almost every subject revolves around memory, but once you get into the real world most jobs revolve around problem solving and putting knowledge to use, not just regurgitating it back onto a piece of paper. I know people with amazing memories who get 100's, when at the same time make the worst decisions and plans in real life.

I ******* can
I write that **** in like 30 minutes.

However, it's not something that will win awards, however, it gets to the point, and gets me decent marks.

They grade in-class essays much easier. They don't expect it to be as well written/the evidence should come from stuff you've already learned about (as in you don't need to expand upon it. It's really just another way to ask information from you (and include a writing component)

essay means having sources and a lot of research going into it. In exams they usually provide all the evidence and expect a long answer of you demonstrating your critical thinking skills.

Generally my English teachers don't expect us to write a top tier essay for an exam like they expect us to write when it's assigned for homework because of the time limit. So the way exam essays are graded is slightly different from the way homework essays are graded.
