We can still legally have slaves to this day. Not like they did in the 1800's, but as punishment for crime we can use prisoners as slaves. Most states don't take advantage of this because of.. er... reasons I guess. And then there's Texas.

Emancipation Proclamation =/= Abolishing of Slavery
The 13th amendment legally abolished slavery in 1865

true, it just "freed" the slaves in the south allowing them to join the union army without actually becoming citizens. which they really didn't become until the civil rights movements
