From the expressions on the kid's faces, it may be a representation of how the new generation reacts to things they haven't seen before, because said things are now obsolete. Many of the other pictures feature motor vehicles of one type or another, so likely the need for horses is less, and so many children, according to this artist's idea of what 2000 could have been like, would never have seen one.
Imagine showing one of the modern 12 y.o.s a floppy disk. Hardly any of them would know what they are, because now we have pen drives and various other ways of handling data in a more effective, physical space efficient manner.

Most of these are pretty good predictions. The building one even predicted CAM/the modern crane. Aside from personal flying machines they're good predictions.. Although they do exist, just not really viable yet.

Some of them are pretty accurate if a few decades off, Mechanized infantry, Planes ect.
