This is a load of ******** .
Hunts like this are run by conservation groups and wildlife preserves. They are perfectly legal, and the hunter pays a large amount of money that goes to conservation for the right to hunt.
After paying, the hunter is told of a specific individual they can hunt, almost always, as was the case here, an an old and no longer fertile male. In the case of lions, even though the male is infertile, he will still attempt to mate with the lionesses, although unsuccessfully. This keeps younger lions from mating, and keeps the females from having offspring. If she or no one else paid to hunt this individual, they would have paid someone to go out and do it. Doing this expands the viable individuals in the population, and provides funding to the conservationists.
TL;DR, It was an infertile male that she paid thousands of dollars to conservation to hunt, and they would have paid someone to kill it if she hadn't. Also, all meat was donated to a local village.

Killing an animal for fun is disgusting. I'm all for using it's body for a purpose like eating the meat or pelts, but shooting it just because you can is awful

I wouldn't say its cowardly as much as it just makes you a total piece of **** .
But for the sake of playing devil's advocate.
Is it unsportsmanlike ? Sure. But I mean come on. If you really wanna pull that card then I guess we're all only allowed to hunt animals that can actively hunt us back.
I guess its also unsportsmanlike to keep cows in pens and slaughter them for meat, because they didn't have a fighting chance.
Oh wait, no one talks about that,
But the moment an animal you like is danger. Stop the ****** presses. Everybody jump on the bandwagon, and tell us all how you have always been an advocate for Lion rights.

Those are some really cool pics. HOWEVER there are a few holes with YOUR argument.

Hunting raises more money for conservation then anything else for african game reserves. (Legal) hunting is all about picking out the few to help the majority. You have to pay several hundred dollars to shoot any animal, plus high prices for equipment, this is all so that the money can go into protecting those animas which are not hunted.

You can;t jsut walk in with a gun and shoot whatever one you want, they have to be picked out for you so that it won't effect the overall balance of animals and won't lower the birthrate in anyway. Whilst also giveing a great experience for the hunter.

She probably DID stalk them, got out of the van and hunted, but had the van and a few people to hel pjsut in case, that's only safe and smart.

Now I'm just wondering what you have to do NOT to hunt a god damn lion.

You're in your jeep starting to move, bam almost running a lion over.
You're casually stepping of your jeep, bam almost stepped on a lion.
You're practicing your javelin throw, bam almost hit a lion in a shade.

Fatass lazy cats.

Your an idiot and have to get your facts straight.

A neighbour of mine (We live in Iceland) Wen't once to Africa, he's a big fan of the animals there and he told me his story of when he was hunting a lion.

They were driving around to find a lion. A Lion spotted them firstly and without a flinch it started running straight at them, they jumped out of the car and both aimed their guns. The guide said "If you can't kill it in three shots I will take it down" my neighbour laughed at that and aimed, three shots to the head and the lion was still running at full speed. So the guide aimed his gun and shot the lion two times and it fell down.

So firstly, killing an animal that takes 5 shots to the head is not easy. So if you are a proud hunter you should be proud of taking a lion down.

That particular lion was not friendly and acting like a cat, it was in attack mode.

So just because your guide knew of friendly lions does not mean that all lions count as friendly.

And I know this guy, he went to Africa and wrestled gorillas. He killed three of them with his bare hands. After which he fought his way through thousands of cannibal Pygmies using only his trusty apple peeling knife.

What happened, is that your neighbor went to africa, killed one of the least dangerous and least hard to kill animals on the safari. Who never ******* bother people unless messed with first. And then came home with a big story to sound cooler instead of "I'm an asshole who shoots big kitty cats."

"To kill a lion, you have to be a coward."
You don't know how ******* stupid that sounded, OP. If someone had to kill a lion that attacked them for no reason, they're a coward? **** you. Kill yourself.

I find it fascinating how different animals actually are from the idea we have of them.

Lion - we see it as a ferocious predator. Actually a lazy **** , who sleeps 22 hours a day.
Bear - giant predator, that wants to maul your face off. Actually an omnivore, who'd rather eat berries and **** in the bushes all day.
Great white shark - blood-thirsty maneating killing machine. Actually just a curious fish, that was wondering what that wooden thing with the limbs sticking out of it was.
Your average household cat - we see it as small, fluffy and harmless. Actually a killing machine, which impulsively tries to murder everything that moves (lazer dots for example) and doesn't even kill for food as much as for fun. Frankly, the only reason they haven't killed us all yet is because we're too big. Trust me, they'd love to.

They where to emphasize the joke that he was making about lions being "super hard to hunt" you see the joke is they arent even hiding or running and are actually quite obvious to see.

I think that they should be hunted and killed.
In 2011 nearly 1,000 people died in lion-related incidents.
User avatar #695 to #682 - unncommon (12/07/2013) [-]
...actually in 2011 there were only between 115 - 120 lion related deaths [1].
