Yes, because you have two options:
a) Cut out some parts, so regular people can enjoy it, while some fans bitch about it, but still watch it.
b) Make the movies 5 hours each, so a handfull of hardcore fans will love the **** out of them, while the other 99.5% of the people that could have enjoyed the movie decide not to.

I mean, for ****** sake, even Lord of The Rings had to cut some stuff out and the films were long as hell.

And that's why VHS is better than DVD or Bluray.

I dislike when people say the book is better then the movie.
The movie version just rips out all the boring **** that doesn't need to be in a
a movie. Like when the book spends 8 chapters describing something unessential to the story. If all that **** was in a movie it would be 4 hours long
and boring as hell.

Here is the difference between a person who read and one who doesn't. When reading you literally can create the entire world, ever minute detail and interaction is there for you. While watching the movie is having the story told for you. Do I want to watch a person take a fail a test on screen for 30 seconds? HELL NO, but reading that would only take 2 seconds and it adds dimension to the characters. There is simply more you can do with a book, more detail, more character development. A movie is short and to the point.

A book contains all the details to create an entirely new world a new cosmos. A movie, while fun, is simply a short bit of entertainment. There is a reason movies are based on books, not the other way around.
