My mother died from cancer in a home I promised her she wouldn't be in. My disability didn't stop me but I still needed to sleep after 48 hours and not one of her 6 retired brothers and sisters would help watch her for the 8 hours I needed for sleep and instead threw her in a home. My brother, stationed overseas, wasn't able to get back in time to see her again. This will be my first mothers day without my mom too....and I'm not even old enough to drink.

I lost my father a little over a year ago.
My mother and him got divorced when I was like 5.
He would come to visit us and take me and my sister on trips during weekends, but a few years ago he stopped showing up.
I didn't really think about it. I was in my teens, doing stuff, things.

Then one day, my mother tells me and my sister that he died.
My sister cried and I just shrugged it off. "Hardly knew him", right?

At his funeral, when I was still giving off that "I don't care" vibe, I looked at my older brother. He was crying. Holy **** that hurt.
That alone was enough to finally punch some sense into my head.
After that I regretted everything bad I had ever said about my father.

Yeah, it's a cool story, I know.
I'm going to go weep for a little bit.
