Short answer... probably yes.

If you see the video with the fireman who kills walking crazy turtle things, you see that there's probably not much you can't do.

Sorry, but this is an absolute pipe dream. These devs are either full of **** or in completely over their heads. There is no way you could create something even close to what they're describing with a Million dollars, let alone $200k. AAA games take tens of millions of dollars, years of work and a highly experienced team to make. Now they're claiming they can make some sort of gamer's wet dream over the summer with 200k?

This happens all the time with kickstarter. People completely oversell an idea like it's going to be the second coming of Jesus in game form, they get money thrown at them by people who have no idea how impossible the idea is, then months down the line they either **** out something that looks in no way shape or form like the product described or pocket the money and shrug.

Watch the video, the team working on it used to be working on Mortal Combat, and/or they were working with EPIC on UE3 and UE4

True.... there is no way one small company like this could accomplish all these things, especially with very little funds.

I think, however, the primary purpose on their end is to create a stable platform on to which to build a game. In other words, the game will essentially become an "open-source" type of video game where game enthusiast can MOD the hell out of it and really create what the original developers are looking for.

Just a though.

That's a good point, but if they never try, there won't be the slightest chance of succeeding. However in this situation, at least they're getting a shot (and we are) to creat this 'gamer's wet dream'

and so, if it comes out badly, worst case scenario, you don't play it, you're a little dissapointed, and you move on. And hey, maybe somebody else will try in the future when this type of thing is easier.

It's the same concept as Gary's mod. They give you the core, you build on top of it. Therefore you have whatever you want. And I'm sure they're implementing techniques such as visual, node-based scripting to allow more people to make (stable) mods for the community.

It's entirely possible, my friend. In fact, it's just like building the base engine and just adding a bunch of cool functions to it with the ability for users to make their own stuff for it - easier than a lot of other games. However, it relies on a community effort, and it's hard to sell a game like that because it's got a bit of a "chicken and egg" problem. If no one has it yet, no one will buy it out of fear of lack of content. If no one buys it, nobody will own it to make content.

Although the system I see in their videos is a HUGE library of pieces and parts of characters and abilities, so it might actually avoid such chicken and egg problems.

Also, you fail to see who these people are. They aren't some start up group. They are professionals and have created award winning things before. What's more, they even appear to have a beta product already made (if you even bothered to look at the video on the home page).

Funny, usually I'm the pessimist.

Funnyjunk usually doesn't accept opinions, but I think that if this Idea is well advertised, they can make an open programmer's group. Using buyable graphic-motors and not redesigning all the textures by their own, they can make a huge project with not a lot of money.
Also, companies like EA and the huge ones spent 75% of the money advertising the game everywhere, and trashing it in a lot of useless resources, like anti-piracing programming, making a good image or more.
So I think that with one million dollars is highly possible to make an AAA game, that is a real game and not an iGame.

It has been in development for the past 6 years. I think the funds are just for the final stages considering how they had to use cash they got from their mobile games to fund the project before.

I predict that this game will not reach any of its goals, not because it's a bad idea, but because too few people will have heard about it by the deadline. Same thing happened with Runescape trying to revive its 2007 version: I never heard of such a project until after the deadline to donate.

This is one of the few times I would like to be proven wrong.

If it doesn't hit it's goals then you can just buy Garry's Mod.
(Assuming that it'll hit the 1.5million dollar goal to publish the ******* game.)

It's not 1.5 million to publish the game, you don't seem to have read anything on the project awakened website and you are just replying to everyone with something related to Gary's Mod, we get it... you like Gary's Mod but if this game delivers Gary's Mod will be like a spec of turd on Project Awakened's shoe.

Bear in mind i'm not saying 100% it will deliver to be as good of a game as it's promised, but you're not giving it a chance just because you like Gmod.

If it restores your faith, there was recently a successfull attempt at another videogame revival.
The makers of skullgirls were having a lot of problems with the company they worked for. They lost their funding, and as a last ditch effort, they mad a donation campaign to keep working on a new character. They expected it to fail, say 'well, at least we tried' and go home.
In 23 hours they funded the character. Shortly after, another. Then, near the end, they got enough for a third. Due to generosity on their part, they offered a fourth character if they got just a bit more money. They got more than enough. Then, with less than one minute left on the campaign, they raised just enough to add a fifth character.
They were not expecting this. They had to keep adding more character goals and mini goals like voice packs because they raised more money than they ever dreamed they could. They didn't even dream of building the donation scale to go nearly as high as it did.
Sometimes these things just happen to work out.
