But...I need my Battlefront 3....I've been waiting all these years. If that's one they shut down, then it is indeed a sad day. Please let there be Battlefront 3...

If anything, the game will come out sooner because of this. The series can be picked up by other producers

In all honesty, this doesnt mean that Battlefront 3 wont go ahead.

OP failed to state all of the facts. LucasArts HAS been shut down, as a games developer. However, they still exist as a games licensing firm. This means that other games developers can make Star Wars games, which then get the LucasArts branding...Which has been happening already, for years.

Hell, Battlefronts I and II was made by Pandemic studios, not by LucasArts at all.

If you want more information, i strongly recommend checking out TotalBiscuit's section on it in this video, fairly informative

So OP, what you are saying is that despite being unprofitable and failing to produce games people want to play, they should have been kept open because at one point they produced something good?

Problem here is : lucasarts was producing a game that we gamers wanted, that is star wars 1313. we feel bad about the very high possibility that this game is basically cancelled and that pisses gamers off. They should have closed after they released 1313

Well, like I just said to nyangiraffe, if the game is as good as you all think and another developer thinks the same thing, they can buy the license and work that have been done and produce the game themselves. However, if non of the other studios think the game is worth finishing, that is further evidence that Disney made the right decision.

I do hope you all get your game, but I honestly dont care about the game, only the business aspect.

man, what are the chances?

that's like saying "oh, someone with money might pop up and inves in you if you are very good freelancer"

this game may get saved, but I wouldn't bet my ass on that... I'm mourning it, putting my north korean flag at half mast due to lucasarts death

ah, also, I don't give a **** about the business aspect, I just wanted the game !!

Well as the owners of the company it's up to them to decide if it's promising, and with the full access they had they probably had a better Idea of it.

Or they just did what disney does and only thought of money. Starwars 1313 looked to be the best game that they have EVER made, but now it will never see the light of day. 150 people lost their jobs just because Disney thinks they know what to do in the game industry. Epic Mickey proves they don't, they made a great first game but raped the second.

Promising enough to warrant paying 150 or so staff members and millions on technologies and consulting? Simple business strategy. If you are going to spend more producing something than you will get in return, it is not worth producing. The only time a business will operate on a strategy where they know they will lose money is either nonprofit or government funded businesses. This isnt a fairytale world.

They use the same model for all their games as they are doing for Star Wars. They license the name out to developers who want to create the game using their characters. Their most notable game in the past 10 years is Kingdom Hearts, created by Square Enix. Disney itself does not produce gaming platform games, they form partnerships.

Disney Interactive is more a publisher than a developer. So saying because they dont make the games they dont know anything is like saying McGraw-Hill doesnt know anything about books because they dont write them, only publish.

Bottom line is that disney is a for profit company and it is more profitable for them to license their name to third-parties than produce in-house games.

What I am saying is the games taht they do put actual work into, they **** up. So for them to get rid of LucasArts, the actual workers, they made a mistake. Because people were already dropping money to get the 1313 game

Again, if it costs more to produce that game then they will make from it, continuing it would be a bad business decision. And who knows, maybe I am wrong and that game would be a big hit and more than make up for the production cost, but probably not. They are guaranteed profit through licensing and publishing.

Money is made through risk, if you take no risk you get nowhere. To get rid of a design company, because you are scared, is just a dumb move.

No, it isnt. Like I said, there is guaranteed profit in licensing. Profit comes from good decisions, not unnecessary risks. And if the game is as profitable as you think it is, than other production studios have the chance to purchase the license and all the work that has already been done for that game.

Also if we want it done, we want it done right! By the people who created teh original idea in the first place. Games are not meant to be jumped around. Look back at Duke nukem Forever, it jumped around and became a giant turd.

I feel like you don't understand what Disney did. All of the work is GONE. The projects were canceled. Deleted. Poof. All because they don't want to confuse the buyers. They want only games to be made with the new characters and **** from the movies.

The hotly anticipated "Star Wars 3013" is one of the games currently in limbo. Though a source told Jason Schreier at Kotaku that "3013" and "Star Wars: First Assault" are "effectively dead forever," another representative for LucasArts suggested to Game Informer that third-party licenser might be able to push the projects forward.
