No idea what it stands for, but it's what Diablo 3 had. You have to have an internet connection, because the whole game - Even single player - is online. Because it's perma-online, the servers hosting the games can fill up, break down, stop people playing for hours, cause massive lag (Which in Diablo 3 was... Terribly bad) and more.

They use it because a perma-online game, while it can be pirated, cannot be played, so it basically stops people pirating.

For a month. Then said pirates have made a work-around to the perma-online server ******** and can play cracked versions in offline mode.

Digital Rights Management.
It's basically ways to prevent pirates from pirating games. But, they don't really work and only hamper the people that actually buy games.
SimCity has always online DRM, meaning that you need a constant internet connection to play the damn game. A lot of people said " **** EA" and are now boycotting everything EA.

Ohhh so kind of like diablo 3 or whatever? And I'm honestly amazed people haven't risen up against EA already...

Yep. They're basically going to shut down all of the current SimCity servers within a minimum of three years, and they'll release a newer SimCity and force everyone to buy that. Then they'll label everyone who downloaded a DRM crack for the game, a pirate; when they bought the game and wants to play it. Then they'll have shiny new statistics that say "We must upgrade our DRM because pirates are playing the game!"

What I'm getting at here is, " **** EA"

Oh yeah don't get me wrong I despise EA too. I'm amazed that they've been able to get away with **** like this for so long. They'll be the death of the gaming craze should that day ever appear.

And thanks for the info.

i can't wait for EA to sell all the things they removed from simcity4. most notably map size, but also power, sewage/plumbing and roads that are afected by amount of trafic, instead of the ammount of intersections you have.
(the most efficient roads as of now is a single road, snaking it's way through the city, with no intersections.
