not a problem with statistics, but a problem with the people who choose the wrong methods to represent their data the best.
there are 3 "averages" in statistics; mean, median and mode. you can pick any one of them and say that is the "average" and be correct.

It's not exactly a problem, people just seem to ignore the fact that it's statistics and take the numbers as truth. In that situation the average guy does beat his wife 3 times a day, people just need to remember it's an average.
