Content, reposts and lemons

The internet is about sharing. Sharing videos via Youtube, sharing our account information to Nigerian Princes via email, sharing funny content on sites like Funnyjunk. It's a simple fact of the internet.

So why do we freak out when content appears from another site? Why do we go apeshit over a repost? Why did I put lemons in the title? Just because some content came from 9Gag doesn't mean the content itself is shit, it could have come from any number of sites that share images and webcomics. Now there are times when it's ok to rage and go apeshit over reposts and content from other sites:

1) If the user uploading the content claims it as their own and goes out of their way to hide any evidence that says otherwise (hiding watermarks, cropping out banners etc.).

2) If the content has been posted in the last week, as it's too soon to be re-uploading (I've seen at least five seperate occasions where the Godzilla gif saying "Eat your vegetablessss" has appeared in the newest uploads in a row). Anything past a week is, to me, fair game. Not everyone is on this site 24/7 so it's impossible for them to know what content has been seen and what hasn't. I call this the "grace period" where after seeing content you wait a decent length of time before re-uploading it for the pleasure of those who missed it the first time.

3) When the user is just a plain old dick, deletes comments and is, overall, a little piece of shit.

So how do we fix this? Simple. Any content that's taken from another site and re-uploaded here has, in the description, a link to the page where the content is originally from. Or, if the user uploading the content doesn't know where it's from, simply says they didn't make it and that it has been uploaded for our own entertainment.

This site is for funny. It doesn't matter where the humour comes from, as long as it makes us laugh or smile then it's done what it was intended to do. Just enjoy it for what it is and enforce some basic rules to keep the majority happy. Obviously there are fucknuggets who will still rage over reposts, but their rage will have no grounds and eventually they'll fade away like something that fades away. Yes.
