Most of the guys will agree to this -
All our lives we have been collectors
We collected Pokemon cards and items.
We collected Baseball, Basketball cards.
We showed off with our G.I. Joes
Even the school bag, stationary, etc was after the latest fad.
We grew up and started collecting games for our consoles.
It was never about impressing the girls, It was about competing with your fellow man.
So why not FJ Items? Its in our blood !!

It's because I'm obsessed with this website which is why I do it. Plus it's unique. I don't see 9fag or tumboner having items to collect. It also gets people who are anons to make accounts and stop being newfags by "trolling" the community. When people join the site gets more popular which means more traffic which means more monies for pinkie pie which means more updates which means Funnyjunk app! WHICH MEANS WE TAKE OVER THE WORLD!

Because its ******* addictive. That moment when you score your first apple is amazeballs. Its all downhill from there.

Its simple, given that most FJers don't prefer to go past the front page, much less the second or third, they are prone to uptake another form of entertainment given the option. That outlet of a game, mixed in with the probability of gaining some potential notoriety (outside of content and comments) and the element of competition through a virtual RPG, just speaks to the general JunnyJunker. Most everyone here can relate to RPGs, this is shown by the high number of RPG-like games referenced in most front page content, ie. Zelda, Fallout, etc.

This isn't just a ******* game, pinkie pie.

I've been glued to my computer for countless hours, collecting these items you put out here for "fun." When I step away from the computer, my hands get clammy, I start twitching. My eyes fill with tears. I need to return to my game, my life, my destiny. The cold sweat I break into every night while I dream of collecting items just reminds me of the rush I get while playing.

I have Caesar. Two of him.

The power I feel while holding one of history's greatest leaders in my possession is orgasmic. I rub myself, pleasure myself, staring at the great wall of items I have built. I am the ruler now. I control their fate.

Recently, a friend from school wondered if I was all right. He said I seemed "jumpy." I lashed out at him, crushing his nose in one swift blow, knowing that they wouldn't allow me to return to school for several days. More time for the game now. I can play to my heart's content. The fools think this a punishment, but it's truly a godsend.

Why is the FJ item game so popular, you ask?

Some call it funny. Some call it addicting.

Me?

I call it living.

“Funny Junkie”

I believe that it is much the same reason why gambling and even drugs are ‘popular’, the secret lies in addiction.

In this case it is behavioral addiction that the US National Library of Medicine says is anything that “produce[s] short-term reward that may engender persistent behavior, despite knowledge of adverse consequences”

In the case of FJ items that short-term reward is the items that you pick up, increasing as the point value increases, and the adverse consequence is all the time that is spent on collecting, possibly to avoid other activities, i.e. procrastination.

This also explains why some of the top item collectors, those most addicted (Including myself), were still on the item discussion page when items went offline for a day. We were all experiencing withdrawal symptoms from the lack of items.

Because people like receiving difficult things and feel satisfaction from it. This way, there isn't THAT much work into it, but there still is some.

There isn't one straightforward reason to why the game is successful but here's my input. Feel free to agree or disagree. The fact is, you've taken a group of people who have some sort of sense of community among them, fj pride if you will, and have proposed something completely exciting and unexpected - and MMORPG. The whole thing is very cool seeing as, this is our favorite site for funny content, therefore the idea of having a comedy sight mixed with an MMORPG is completely new and exciting. When you add in the various contests, the rare items (which get their success from they're awesome looks and from being based off of some memes and pop culture stuff), along with a craft system and a points system, you've pretty much created a setup for an MMORPG economy. Also with the only aspect of the game right now being drops (now levels, battles ect), everyone feels equal and as if they have an equal chance to get those uber rare items. Despite the fact that we're wasting our lives, we feel as if that Evil Toast is only a spawn away and if we're fast enough we have just as good a chance as anyone else to get it. Therefore we get addicted. Therefore win for pinkie pie.

Sorry for the novel.

The game is very simple to play.
One thing that sets this website apart from many other websites, is the level up system. Thumbs actually matter to change your level. And you get access to more things the higher level you are.

Now, people have another thing to do, they can spend their time trading items, or trying to get items.
Its just a kind of fun way to pass the time. I've heard the arguement that "oh well they're just useless pixels"

Well isn't that everything on this site? Its just useless pixels for thumbs. Yet, people still care about them. Hell, I know I do. People are always gonna do things to waste their time if they think they actually aren't.

Its just the way that life works.

Its kind of a fun distraction from everything else that goes on on this site, and its just a cute little minigame.
