My valentines rant [worth the read]
Valentines day, in my opinion, is the stupidest holiday I have ever heard of. Many people may say "you only say that because you are single!" No, I have always hated it, since I was a little kid. take a look at the basis of the event:
*show that someone you care about them
*ask them to be your "Valentine"
*"surprise&qu ot; people with gifts such as cards and chocolate
All of these are some of the most naive guidelines I have ever heard of. let me explain why (in order previously stated)
*having a day to show someone you care about them? Really? Gabriel iglesias said it best when he said "live a tiny bit of each day like you may not be here tomorrow" tomorrow is not promised to you people. Do not base your emotions on a day! if you love someone tell them! Don't be afraid! Everyone likes to know they mean something to someone. that being said, if you have already told someone your emotions towards them, don't let them fade off. Support your words, show them daily that they are important to you and that you really do appreciate them; wether it be your girlfriend, your boyfriend, your best friend, your parent, whomever.actions speak louder than words.
*the "Valentine"-I would like to call bs. Valentine is one of two people: your partner or someone close. Valentines promotes being together with someone who means a lot to you. Too many people mistake this as a day targeted only towards couples, which makes people who are single feel so pathetic they are willing to have almost anyone as their Valentine. basically, if you are single and Valentines rolls around, you are subjected to being depressed and wishing you had that special someone to call yours all day.
*surprising someone with gifts- this is a perfect example of todays consumerism. We have come to the conclusion that the perfect gift for that someone comes from the wallet. This is far from the truth. Memories last much longer than chocolates, or jewellery, or a giant stuffed teddy bear the size of Kobe Bryant. People, if you want a great present for that other take them somewhere and make it something they will never forget. it can be anything from the park (weather permitting) to just your house playing video games. As long as you can find a way to make it joyful for both of you. Guys, let your girl whoop you a few times but have fun doing it. I promise the memories you make will be worth much more than a $200 rock or a $30 box of chocolates.just enjoy having each other.
