How do you know, the fatal virus caused by the bite might have spread instantly through his body. Not to mention that now that he's lost a foot he's going to need help moving faster and might end up being walker chow if they have to make a get away.

The only zombie movie I've ever seen where the virus spread that fast was in 28 Days/Weeks Later, and those doesn't even follow the basic rules of zombie existence.

They just have to cauterize the wound. Merle did it in 20 minutes or so.

They cut off the leg before the virus could spread. Plus they have medical supplies and Hershel does have medical experience. Also they won't have to make a get away for a couple episodes.

Someone important will die this season. I used to think it would be Carl because season 2 was a bunch of "Stay in the house, Carl ... Dammit Carl, we told you to stay in the house."

Could also be T-Bone. He's nearly died a bunch of times, It'll happen sooner or later.

If I recall correctly, Daryl was under the impression that Merle was dead (I remember him being mad at the group for leaving his brother behind). If Merle believes him, then Merle shouldn't have a reason to let his brother die.

Unless Daryl dies in a completely unrelated situation where Merle isn't there.
