Man, it sucks that they don't make movies like Gladiator anymore.

I'm not saying they don't make epic movies, but those are all fucking adaptations of comic book characters and transforming cars that don't shut the fuck up.

I'm talking historical epics with, for the most part, original characters or adaptations of actually good books; Gladiator, Ben Hur, Lawrence of Arabia, Doctor Zhivago...

ah, i haven't seen the film but a friend was telling me he liked it. I didn't know they changed the setting from the play.....
there has been a lot of epic ww1/2 "recently", such as Atonement. but yeah hollywood seems to be doing the sci-fi epic thing right now, when it isn't 3d-ifying older films.
