I thought their CBA was good for another few years. I don't think the sport can take the hit of another lockout.

Nope, the CBA is done on Sept 15th. They can probably "survive" a lock out, but they will certainly worse off because of it.

I am convinced that there will not be a year long lockout. The Winter Classic between the Detroit Red Wings and Toronto Laughs will make to much revenue going to both sides for either of them to ignore.

Really? Wings/Leafs...Sounds like a good game. I don't think they'll lockout again. The NHL is starting to grab some big popularity and a lockout would send them back a while.

It is being played in Michigan Stadium. And of course a year lockout of any amount of time will set them back a bit in terms of getting away from being a "niche sport".

They should have done a better job of taking advantage of the short lockout of the NBA. But alas...

The original proposal from the owners was a textbook negotiating tactic/opening move, but it was still a slap in the face to the NHLPA. I actually like the PA's proposal, it is quite shrewd. And yes, Bryzgalov will go back to University (if he even went there in the first place) and study phylosiphy and politics with Tim Thomas.

I haven't been following the negotiations that closely, just from what I hear on TSN. But I guess they still have a month to work something out. I kinda forgot what day it was.

I don't enjoy the concept of Bettman as "commissioner". What he really is is the president of the NHL. He represents the interests of the owners, not the owners AND the players. It is no wonder there is a lockout every 10 years since Bettman has been "in charge" of the league.

Well, you have to keep in mind that he has to represent the owner's many of whom (like Ed Snider) are greedy and cannot really care who they piss off.

Because money makes the world go 'round. However I think the majority of the profits should go to the players, after all, each and every one of them is the entertainment.
