I just did a solo run on crystal then saw this... It's sad that it's easier to beat that game with just feraligatr than a team
User avatar #105 to #104 - mikerocks (11/03/2013) [-]
That's how I got through my childhood except my team was 6 feraligatrs.

Okay, all your solo runs are cool but can someone please tell me what a Nuzlocke run is?
User avatar #86 to #74 - vatra (11/03/2013) [-]
Oh, also, in case you were wondering, this is where Nuzlocke originated. You need to login to view this link

Around my friends, we generally add a "Dupe clause" which gives us a free pass if the first Pokémon we come across in a route is something we already have.
User avatar #81 to #74 - vatra (11/03/2013) [-]
1. Any Pokémon that faints is considered dead, and must be released.
2. The player may only catch the first Pokémon encountered in each area, and none else. If the first Pokémon encountered faints or flees, there are no second chances. If the first encounter in the area is a Double Battle in dark grass, the player may choose which of the two Pokémon they would like to catch.
3. A black out/white out is considered to be "game over", even if there are Pokémon left in the PC.
4. Can only use pokemon you catch, thus trade evolves can't be used.
5. No resets/ starting from last save, that defeats the purpose.

There are two main rules in a nuzlocke:
1. You can only catch the first pokemon you encounter in each new area
2.if a pokemon faints, it is considered dead and is either released or peraboxed and can no longer battle ever.

More rules can be added as needed or wanted to make it more challenging. A common extra rule is to nickname all pokemon, or the no legionaries rule. The point is to bond with pokemon you didn't want, to treat them more like living creatures rather than data, and to develop new appreciation for pokemon previously thought as 'useless'.
User avatar #75 to #74 - sabcy ONLINE (11/03/2013) [-]
you are only allowed one pokemon per area, the first one you meet. Any pokemon that faints is considered dead. Those are the rules, and it has started many a comic.
User avatar #76 to #75 - soule (11/03/2013) [-]
Ah, I see. So what constitutes as an area? A route? And what if you lose to a trainer? Do you have to just catch another and try again?
User avatar #78 to #76 - sabcy ONLINE (11/03/2013) [-]
yes to the first, any route or city. lose entirely to a trainer, and you better have backup. oh, and one more thing. You're only allowed one shot at the Elite for or whatever the league is called in your game.

I did a solo run through pokemon yellow as a kid, I chose Nidoking cause he looked badass. Was like, level 76 by the time I fought the elite four and beat the **** out of all their pokemans. Ended up using struggle against the last pokemon Lance had to finish it all up cause who actually bought all the important **** when they were 8?

Only solo run I've done was with Squirtle as my starter in Fire Red. Dragons? Ice beam. Electric? Earthquake. Psychics/Ghosts? Bite. Everything else? Surf.

Come gen 5 I did Nuzlocke's and type runs more. I've done Water, Fire, Fighting, Flyer, Ground, Rock, and Grass runs.
< yfw I tell you this

Solo fighting in B2:
Emboar
Lucario
Toxicroak
Sawk
Scrafty
Mienshao
Pretty good, never really had much trouble.
User avatar #103 to #97 - thesinful (11/03/2013) [-]
I personally woulda replaced Sawk with Heracross but good otherwise. I think water was my favorite solo run.

Slowbro
Swampert
Gyarados
Cloyster
Sharpedo
Kingdra
Politoed (took forever to get one in the Dream World, but Drizzle ftw!)

I used to do solo runs when I was little. Now I have to have each of the 6 slots with a different type. 1 Fire, 1 Water, 1 Grass, 1 Ground, 1 Flying and 1 Electric. It was good because most of then grew into double types like Grass/Psychic or Water/Ice so I never really missed out. I usually train each Pokémon in stints of 5lv's or 10 so that way all my Pokémon are the same level.

Solo run in Sapphire with Treeko.

User avatar #43 - chuca (11/03/2013) [-]
i assume a solo run is when you only use one pokemon, presumably your starter, in which case i've done a solo run on every pokemon game i've every played, hell it's the easiest way to play
#41 - swooz (11/03/2013) [-]
