Empty space is literally the scariest ******* thing there is. You're out in a void with nothing for miles and if you die you'll die out there completely and utterly alone. At least when you get murdered someone's having fun.

that is literally my biggest fear, i don't know why but the ocean terrifies me. i would never and i mean never even go scuba diving or just even take a boat out. it makes me nervous just going far enough out on the beach so i have to swim. it's not the water itself i love swimming.

There's a certain charm to it, though. It's like "hey what's down this way"?

The only thing I can never do scuba diving is go anywhere where there is something above my head that is blocking my line of vision to the surface. Wreck diving and caves are a huge NO for me, because if my tank ****** up I wouldn't be able to ascend and bet my life on a decompression chamber.

Apart from that it's actually quite fun. Once you get down there, it's almost soothing. When you're on the surface you can't see ****, but once you go under you can see all the marine life and stuff, so any fear you have goes away instantly. Unless there's a shark.

Just try it! You will find that what lies beneath the surface is far more fascinating than frightening; a whole world that you never explore if your feet remain planted firmly on the ground.

What if the great explorers of their ages had said "it can remain explored", my good man? Should we all just remain planted where we stand, afraid to take a step, afraid to dive into the deep, indulging waters of knowledge? Are we really content with merely surviving, as opposed to truly living?

Nay, I say! Go to your local PADI center and sign up for a day-long diving experience! You might enjoy it

So you'll let others have all the fun? You'll let others charge; the secrets of the sea flow into the minds of those below the surface while you sit meekly on the land above, oblivious to the wonders that are but a dive away?

I remember that until I was about 13 I was scared to death by heights. Buildings over 20 stories were too much for my gut to handle, and I'd frequently find my mind teetering on the edge when I felt like my body was going to teeter over the edge. Then came along a friend of mine who insisted in less than gracious terms that I was being a "whiny little bitch". He made me climb around around 40 feet up the scaffolding of a building that was missing the "built" aspect that most structures have. When I reached the top I nearly broke down, but after a minute or two up there, I saw something from a new perspective. My neighbourhood, which I had lived in for years, looked completely different from above. After that I viewed heights as an adventure, as acquiring a new perspective. Diving is the same concept.

I encourage you to climb up that building. It's tough at first, but once you reach the top you'll look around you and think "wow, how could I ever have wanted to stay on the ground?". Unlike the rung upon rung of rusted metal that I had to climb to reach my point of no return, all you need do to be fascinated is take a step. Once the water envelops you, the rough texture of the boat above you a now distant memory, you'll be enchanted by it. You'll realize that the real terror lies in looking down into the darkness like a teenager looking up at a unfinished building and not knowing what it's like to be there.

Of course, I can't force you, no one can. Whether you wish to explore and discover or not is entirely up to you, but I hope one day I'll see you down there at 30-40ft below the surface, where all is bright and full of color and the fish have crazy patterns that distort your vision.

Fair enough, a lot of people are. Just remember that if you ever get curious there are reefs which stretch for miles and odd fish with huge, bubbly eyes waiting to be explored waiting for you to take the dive. Good luck with your fear of the ocean, and climb every metaphorical building you are ready to scale.

It's like, what if the Kraken is real? He can very well fit down there. Heck, Kraken is probably Cthulu's bitch and sucking it's dick or something.

We don't know what's down there but we do know that things are scary as **** down there. Though, with the amount of water weighing down everything, it's very unlikely much can survive. At the same time years of evolution probably made some terrifying **** down there.

I've recently become extremely terrified of the ocean; not just the ocean, but any body of water; i won't even go in my swimming pool.
I think it's because i connect big bodies of water with mystery and secrets as we don't know what's living in the deepest and darkest parts of the sea; for me, it's more of a mystery aspect that just scares the **** out of me.

I agree BEING in empty space would be scary, but watching someone in empty space isn't. Suspenseful, maybe, but not scary. It's like saying 127 hours is a scary movie. Scary if you were in that situation, and suspenseful to watch, but not a scary movie.
