If God is truly omnipotent, why does he need to give anything free will?
No-one can force him to, so why doesn't he make it easier for himself and everyone and just eradicate sin?
User avatar #12760 to #12681 - jokeface (02/23/2013) [-]
He doesn't need to do anything. He simply chooses to. And there's no "easier" method for God to take, since He is infinitely powerful and therefore there are no differing levels of difficulty for Him. Free will makes life more interesting and difficult for us. And He wants us to struggle so that we may come out stronger in the end.
User avatar #12762 to #12760 - captaincupcakez ONLINE (02/23/2013) [-]
Or he could make us strong at the start.

None of your arguments make the slightest sense unless applied to human morals. God is not human, therefore it's not valid.
User avatar #12764 to #12762 - jokeface (02/23/2013) [-]
They make no sense to you. But they make sense to God. And since God is wiser than man, His choices are more valid than anything we could come up with.

You can't validate the existence of God by saying "only God will understand"
User avatar #12766 to #12765 - jokeface (02/23/2013) [-]
I wasn't trying to validate His existence, I was validating His choices based on the premise that He does exist.

so God's an asshole who takes pleasure in the suffering of the human race?
#12723 to #12721 - weakinthecenterr (02/23/2013) [-]
he takes pleasure in seeing those who perservere. People seem to think the suffering is the main point in god's eye but that's not what he is waiting for. He is waiting for the triumph that can only come from first having adversity. In modern society everything is about complaining. Complain about your parents, complain about your boyfriend/gf, complain about your looks complain about your economic situation and instead of doing anything people think beer and weed is the answer. God wants you to fight, he does not want to spend all his time giving everything and spoiling everyone. spoiled people do not learn how to help others
User avatar #12726 to #12723 - captaincupcakez ONLINE (02/23/2013) [-]
tell that to the starving people in the world.
#12728 to #12726 - weakinthecenterr (02/23/2013) [-]
how about you go help them?
User avatar #12730 to #12728 - captaincupcakez ONLINE (02/23/2013) [-]
and how the fuck am I supposed to do that? Give £1000 to them? WOW that'll save maybe 10 people. Meanwhile, God could just make it a whole lot fucking easier.

One day on the radio a man heard a weathercast of a flood. Everyone evacuated. But the man said. I'm religious I pray. god loves me god will protect me. Well there was a flood. the man was trapped on his roof. He got on his knees and prayed. God please save me. Soon after a helicopter showed up overhead and dropped a ladder the pilot said "climb on we will take you to safety" the man said " no thanks im religious I pray god loves me. god will save me" and the helicopter left. The man prayed again "god please save me" soon after a man in a boat came. He said "hey climb on I will take you to safety" the man again said "no thanks, I'm relgious I pray god loves me, god will save me" Eventually the man drowned.

As he went up to the heavenly gates he demaned a audience with god. He went to god and said "God, I prayed, I loved you. Why didn't you save me? God said "What are you talking about? I sent you a weather report, a helicopter and a boat. What the hell are you doing here?"
User avatar #12736 to #12732 - captaincupcakez ONLINE (02/23/2013) [-]
Alternatively, he could have just not sent a fucking flood and been a nice guy.
But no, gotta send a huge fucking flood and ruin thousands of people's lives and homes.

Good job God.
#12738 to #12736 - weakinthecenterr (02/23/2013) [-]
and because of that flood people let go of pettiness and learned the meaning of helping each other in times of need. its not my fault white people are so jaded they need a freaking natural disaster to break them out of apathy. why dont you fucking get laid. itll probably be harder than surviving a natural disaster
User avatar #12739 to #12738 - captaincupcakez ONLINE (02/23/2013) [-]
Really.... I thought I was having a conversation with a mature adult, not a kid who feels the need to make petty insults to prove a point...

Anyway, if God just fucking told people this shit instead of implying it with natural disasters then it might work!
#12740 to #12739 - weakinthecenterr (02/23/2013) [-]
kid? who you calling a kid? ill fucking wreck you i swear on me mums lyfe. you're done m8

do kids listen when parents tell them what to do? no. you love to believe just talking creates motivation. it doesn't. motivation comes from finally stop rationalizing
User avatar #12741 to #12740 - captaincupcakez ONLINE (02/23/2013) [-]
He's. A. Fucking. God.

I'm pretty sure people would listen to him if he showed himself.
Which he would, if he was an intelligent higher being.
Which he isn't, because he doesn't exist.
#12742 to #12741 - weakinthecenterr (02/23/2013) [-]
just the fact you dont realize how many things happen on any given day around the world that if god talked he would lose his power. he has built a world for billions of years. you cant even win a conversation after 20 minutes.

you lose god wins. dont ever question him. you're like those basketball fans who tell players how they should play only because they have them on their fantasy team rather than actually wanting the team to win
User avatar #12743 to #12742 - captaincupcakez ONLINE (02/23/2013) [-]
" if god talked he would lose his power"
then he is not omnipotent.

and I'm not telling him what to do, I'm saying he doesn't exist because a higher being wouldn't be that fucking stupid.

You base your ENTIRE LIFE on the ramblings of men 2000 years ago who thought the earth was flat, did not know what gravity was, thought the sun orbited the earth, as well as a bunch of other complete bullshit
#12746 to #12743 - weakinthecenterr (02/23/2013) [-]
look here you vermin of the north. Science IS god's will. it's not supplanting god. its the same damn thing you elitist
User avatar #12747 to #12746 - captaincupcakez ONLINE (02/23/2013) [-]
I didn't even mention science. You just like to bring up that argument because you think it explains it away.

The truth is, no-one knows why some things happen, how the universe started etc. I just choose to wait until we can know for sure what caused these things to happen, rather than jumping to the illogical conclusion of a God.

because, although He has a plan for us, He'll let us do whatever we want.
User avatar #12686 to #12684 - captaincupcakez ONLINE (02/23/2013) [-]
That doesn't answer the question.

Also, how would stopping a natural disaster affect our free will?
User avatar #12688 to #12686 - teoberry (02/23/2013) [-]
It'd be spoiling us, basically. We're meant be dependent on God, but we can't ask Him to do everything for us. We can track storms, so it all comes down to whether we tell people to evac and whether they evac.
User avatar #12690 to #12688 - captaincupcakez ONLINE (02/23/2013) [-]

I don't.

But I see no reason to believe in something with not a shred of evidence
