what do you call a religious person who acknowledges Yahweh/Jehova's existance but rejects them. but they also reject the devil? like completely reject both. But they still want to live a good life for the sake of living a good life?

He says that he cant come to terms with "loving" god as he feels that god is just as vengefull as the devil and that he would rather live a good life because of his own brain than someone in anoher reality

Remind him that wars and famine and unnecessary death are the result of mankind being at odds with itself, and God does not cause those things. Also, ask him why he's so preoccupied with this life instead of having hope for a perfect one in heaven. If he believes in God, surely he knows that this world is not the end.
