You're thinking of a reversed pentagram, in which the two lower points are facing upwards.

That's just a pentagram, or in this case, a pentacle, which is some sort of magical pagan amulet ****.

For most Christians, however, it's seen as a symbol of witchcraft, and so is not really different from the reversed pentagram.

Well, so long as we're rewriting what things mean based on anecdotal evidence of what most Christians think, I suppose that's fine.

Because a series of murders totally didn't happen in Salem, Massachusetts because people thought they were practicing paganism and witchcraft, and they totally didn't associate that with the devil. And this is totally anecdotal, and not documented history or anything. And it totally doesn't say in the bible that the practice of witchcraft is

Look, I'm not Christian, I'm not telling you what the pentagram is or isn't, but I am telling you that, regardless of the actual history of the symbol that I am very much aware of, modern Christians normally view the symbol as the exact same thing as the reversed version. You don't need to convince me they're not the same thing, because believe me, I don't really care, just letting you know that in the same way you think they're different, some people think they're the same. And for some people they might as well be.

The entire point to my original post was that the original comment was thinking that it was a satanic symbol.

Satanism is most commonly associated with the inverted pentagram, not a normal pentagram. Ryder's response was that the normal pentagram is often associated with witchcraft. While that's true, witchcraft and Satanism are not the same thing.

The original comment was most likely thinking of an inverted pentagram in relation to satanic symbols, not a normal one.

It can also be dated back to early Christianity as the Pentangle, which represented the Five Wounds of Christ.

I'm not sure how true that is. I've never once seen the pentagram related to christianity other than if it has to do with Satanism or Dark Magic. You could also say "It's dated back to early Wicca to represent the five elements and bindings of fire, earth, water, air, and spirit" or "It's dated back to early Satanism to represent the 5 Chakra points of the Crown on your head and the ones in your hands and feet, unifying in your torso"

"The pentagram was used in ancient times as a Christian symbol for the five senses.[10] or of the five wounds of Christ. A Christian use of the pentangle occurs in the 14th-century English poem Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, in which the symbol decorates the shield of the hero, Gawain. The unnamed poet credits the symbol's origin to King Solomon, and says the symbol is key to understanding the work. The poet explains that each of the five interconnected points represents a virtue tied to a group of five. Gawain is keen in his five senses, dextrous in his five fingers, faithful to the salvation provided through the Five Wounds of Christ, takes courage from the five joys that Mary had of Jesus, and exemplifies the five virtues of knighthood.[11]"

Hm? You've never heard of the brass vessel he carried with him to capture Demons with and used it to evoke them later? That's where the whole "Major/Lesser Keys of Solomon" thing comes from, including tales of waring nations and fierce battles where he utilized these spirits for military gain.

In Wiccan paganism it holds that meaning. In western culture, a reversed pentagram is a sign of evil or sinister forces.
