What's everyone's opinions on the current events between China and Japan? I know that pretty much since WW2, the USA has promised to protect Japan in any and all military affairs it's involved in, so let's just say, theoretically, that China attacks Japan, causing the USA/UN to get involved. Anyone think there's a chance it could lead to full on World War? Also, who wins in a war between China and the USA? The USA may technically have a better military, but China has more men and a better economy.

America hands down
1/ China's economy is based on our consumers buying we go to war they get no money.
plus we would put our ships around to not allow them to ship any products or any products inland
2/ We're in a recession and redoing the entire navy with brand new everything. New subs carriers I mean everything
3/ It would most likely lead to a stand off like the cold war where we puff are chests and we show how strong our economy and how the rest of the world dependent on us.

Attacking Japan would directly involve the US because we have our troops there because Japan isn't allowed to have their own military(kinda bullshit but it is what it is) The US has a far more advanced economy and much more advanced financial markets and a much higher GDP per capita. US military budget is astronomically high and China is still using knock off Soviet tech. The have one old soviet aircraft carrier and the US have a much more advanced navy. Numbers don't count for shit without technology or superior strategy.
I doubt the U.S. would directly intervene is China and Japan went to war, rather than putting diplomatic and economic pressure on them.
As for the U.S. versus China, this is going to piss off some cynics but I'm sure the U.S. would have a solid chance. For the following reasons:
-Better equipped, FAR more experienced military
-An astronomically higher defense budget
- A larger navy and therefore better distribution of a very advanced airforce
-Better technology
Also, the U.S. GDP and PPP are greater than China's. China has the fastest growing economy, but not the best.

What exactly do you mean by diplomatic or economic pressure? And by stronger economy, I meant they're not in a recession, and they don't have massive debt. These conflicts could go on for years, by which time America's economy may have spiraled downwards even further. Which, if America doesn't have an economic advantage over China, and still owes China large amounts in debt, then I think that China is a serious threat to the USA. However, I do see your points about the military.
When I say diplomatic/economic pressure I mean letting them know how much this would hurt their image, how much they'd be damaging relations with other countries, and perhaps even threatening sanctions.
And yeah, I agree that if America were to lose its economic edge China would end up being a threat but I was assuming in your scenario that the war would be today.
Now if you wanna talk World War 3, look at the Middle East.

Israel and Iran. You've got all the ingredients needed. Strong nationalist sentiment, instability, alliances with larger powers, and nuclear weapons. Too many countries have hands in that region for it to be too unstable. Its a hell of a powder keg, that place.
I could definitely see that happening. Hell, seems to me like the world's boiling over in violence, there's bound to be something big happening somewhere soon. And as you said Israel and Iran would be the perfect stage.
