Conservatives love it because they think he's going to be helpful.

Liberals love it because they they now have something new to attack.

So I guess we'll just see how this one plays out.

If you want my opinion, I don't think it's really a big deal. Everybody makes the VP pick such a big deal at first, then the hype dies down and it doesn't really change anything (unless you pick Sarah Palin, that is). The only thing of Ryan's that I've read is his budget, which I was not a fan of, but it's not like there's any chance I'll be voting for Romney anyways (plus, I live in California, it's not like it really matters who I vote for).

He calls himself a fiscal conservative, yet he supported TARP, NDAA and more foreign intervention, and his budget doesn't do enough cutting in places where it ought to be cut (like the Pentagon's budget).

Thanks, but definitely no thanks. Gotta be honest, though, at least he didn't pick Rubio--that dude's Cheney on steroids.

I think it's a pretty good move strategically. Normally a guy like Paul Ryan would be a dangerous move because his strong fiscal conservatism would be a lightning rod for attacks. But Romney can afford to pick him because no matter who he decides on, the Obama Campaign is going to demonize with everything they've got. So he might as well pick someone who's going to aid his cause.

I've seen liberals on Reddit throwing a tantrum, but they fail to realize they Romney didn't pick this guy for them. They hate him with a passion regardless, so he shouldn't waste time trying to meet them half way with a moderate.

I think Paul Ryan will be a good pick in the long run. Once the blitzkrieg of character assassinations die down we're actually going to see what this guy can do on the campaign trail. I'm especially looking forward to watching him eviscerate Biden in the VP debate. That was a missed opportunity last time around with Palin in the other corner.

Very few would have made a better pick(maybe Rand Paul or Jim Demint but I digress). One of the only people in Congress with a plan, he wrote the only budget that's been passed by any chamber in 1200 days. He knows the numbers and the facts better than almost anyone and can articulate them clearly. He's as clean as they come and a lot harder to character assassinate than Romney. Some questionable votes in the past (TARP, auto bailouts, no child left behind) but an overall solid pick. Romney mainly says broad vague statements in speeches that makes it seem like he's just saying what we want to hear. Ryan is an excellent counterbalance to that because he's all about the numbers and the specifics.
