Regardless of whether the "trickle down" works, lets consider another aspect.  Does taxing rich people work?  Just because you set a higher tax does not mean there is a higher tax revenue.  In fact, after a certain percentage the tax revenue will go noticeably down as shown by the Laffer curve.  Of all people in society, the wealthy are the most capable of hiding their income illegally and finding loopholes.   
   
Not only that, but also taxing the wealthy in society (including big business owners) results in unexpected consequences.  This includes many jobs being outsourced overseas and having more companies being formed in foreign countries where there is less tax (lower expenses of doing business).  You can't just look at it from an income perspective, you have to consider the incentives.
