What are people's views and opinions on the Falkland Island dispute?
The Islands are a vestige of Imperialism in the world as a Crown Colony; wouldn't you agree Imperialism is wrong? The Brits only USE the Falklands as an Oil field. I also support the unification of Ireland for the same concerns.
Not when it isn't Imperialism. Argentina wants to take the Islands, despite what the inhabitants actually want, to me that is colonialism. The Islands have been British since 1866 I believe, I don't think Oil was their concern back then.
Again with Northern Ireland, the majority voted to remain under British control because they were mostly Protestants and they saw the benefits, and the stability, of letting a major power help them.

I do. I believe manipulating others for your personal gain is morally unjust.
Of course the north voted for union with Britain, the Brits only asked the Protestants! Besides that, Carson, the leader of a prominent Protestant terrorist organization, threatened violence to those who voted for acceding to the ROI.

How are they manipulating the Falklanders? or the Northern Irish? If they didn't want Britain to govern them, a referendum would be held and sovereignty would be passed to the preferred nation. But they want to be British, then and now.
Are you American by any chance?

How are they manipulating? how about being treated as second class citizens in their own homes, and rights abuses beyond counting.
What does my Nationality matter? what an odd tangent to take the discussion, when I was speaking of manipulating others and the Partition, I fail to see the relevance.

And then the last part of my comment which you seem to have failed to read...
Hang on, we're talking about the Falklands and Northern Ireland here, not America in the 60's. The people there didn't have their rights restricted and they were in no way "second class citizens". You fail to see that the majority in N.Ireland wanted to remain governed by Britain and they still do. If we were as you truly see us, we wouldn't have let the ROI leave, would we? It's all about self-determination.
Why hide it? How odd... And because if you do happen to be American, it'll clear some things up. The blind hatred for the UK and it's overseas territories, for one.

Blind hatred? I think not. Because I spoke about a concern of mine involving the UK, doesn't mean I hate it.
you've obviously never been to Northern Ireland if you presume to tell me that British rule is benevolent and benign, Ask anyone in Fermanagh and they'll tell you the same. You can claim "Majority" all you'd like,it's easy, especially when you only take opinion polls from the Unionist side of the Peace Line.
My Nationality is my own concern, It doesn't change my views or the validity of my statements.

And then ignoring that. I like how you pick and choose evidence to support you.
Listen, ignore Northern Ireland, they can have a referendum and leave. My point is the Falklands. It's British territory and it should remain so.

Well my point is Northern Ireland, you must be afflicted with autism if you can't see that. I have specifically centered the polemic around Northern Ireland; if you're not interested in the discussion, the solution is simple, quit posting.
in regard to you saying "And then ignoring that", isn't this picking and choosing?

My question was regarding the dispute about the Falklands: if you want to discuss Northern Ireland piss off and create your own thread. You must be downright mentally retarded if you cannot see that this thread (my thread) is about the Falkland Islands.

The population are pretty much exclusively English-speaking people who identify thesmelves as Brits, and would vote overwhelmingly for the UK in a referendum.
Argentina has never controlled the islands outside of that few week period in 1982, just claimed them since independence and bitched about the UK not giving them the islands "because they're meanies".
TL;DR: Britain owns those islands by every definition of rightful ownership in the book. Argentina is just a bitch.

I didn't say any specific nationality because the first settlers of the Falklands is a mystery. Some say the British had a small fishing base there before anyone else and some say Portuguese and Spaniards were there before anyone else. Some even say the Dutch landed there first.
I'm sorry, I don't think we understand eachother. I'm confused why you said Europeans were the first there.
I'll just leave this conversation since we agree with each other. No matter who was there first, it's the people who currently reside there that should choose.
