I went with the following team - I'm currently at 10 badges in Kanto ^^
- Typhlosion
- Crobat
- Heracross
- Lapras
- Gengar
- Ampharos

Since you're going with Totodile, Feraligatr could replace Lapras. Then you'll need a fire type: You could use Rapidash, Arcanine, Ninetales, Houndoom or Magmar. Houndoom is quite strong and has a good movepool, but is hard to get (safari zone). Magmar is another fine alternative and magmortar (if possible) is a killer ;)
Arcanine and Ninetales are cool but requires a fire stone while Rapidash evolves late.
