Actually, the protagonist from FireRed is named Fire, while the protagonist from Red is named, well, Red. For your question though, I would say Red would win, as he became champion after earning all eight Kanto badges, while Prof. Oak used to be a trainer before he studied Pokemon, but that is long past him.
