Yes, that may be true that their music taste is only bad because they're kids, however kids back then listened to things that had lyrics that didn't make their IQ drop below sea level. According to your estimate border, you would have 20 000 artist worldwide.
There are obviously more than 20 000 artists in the US alone.
30% adds up to above 900 000 artists.

In the 70s bands put some sort of emotion and story into the music now so long as you can talk fast enough to a beat or cry into a mic you will make it big. I do try to find good music thats out from around now but the most i can find are normally metal or irish punk/folk trying to find anything that semi resembles a decent rock, ska, alternative or anything like that from back in the day just leads to hearing the same kind of crap
