Any suggestions for a girl who wasnt allowed to listen to anything besides country, gospel and instumental music growing up. Music hasnt been a big part of my life, but I really feel like im missing out. Open to pretty much anything.

Well, if you seriously have grown up without music, it should be a slow ascension, starting with the greats/best-knowns, otherwise you may be overwhelmed and die from an unsafe harmonic intake increase.
For rock, it'd probably be the Beatles, Led Zepplin, Pink Floyd, Rainbow, Styx, Jimi Hendrix, Queen.
For pop, it'd be Michael Jackson, Madonna, and Tears for Fears.
For punk, it'd be Minute Men, Misfits, Ramones, and the Sex Pistols.
For indie, it'd be Modest Mouse, Two Door Cinema Club, and Arctic Monkeys.
For EDM, it'd be Skrillex (he made it mainstream, and his stuff is decent), Feed Me, Zomboy, and Knife Party.
For metal, it'd be Metallica, Iron Maiden, and Alice in Chains.
For grunge (including post/new grunge), it'd be Nirvana, Pissed Jeans, Pixies, Foo Fighters, Toadies, and Soundgarden.
For ska, it'd be Reel Big Fish and Streetlight Manifesto.

If you'd like me to elaborate, or provide a link to their best (IMO) songs, I'd be happy to help.

a) Why weren´t you allowed to listen to other Stuff? And why did you listen to those who told you?oO
b) Well, I coul give you tons of Underground-Stuff, Punk, Metal, etc, but I think you should clear of the most important Bands first if you really haven´t listened to them before...Stuff like Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Deep Purple, The Who, U2, The Clash, The Eagles, Credence Clearwater Revival, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Jefferson Airplane, Queen,Aerosmith, The Rolling Stones, Hendrix, etc. If you really haven´t heard those before and want to, tell me and I´ll give you some Songs to listen to:D

My step dad just didnt like music. He told me what I could and Could not listen to. One time I had the radio in my truck set to something other than country or the Jesus station, and he was pissed. It was easier to just not listen to music.

Feel free to post some of the more underground stuff, Im listening to everything that every is putting down, and then some. Thanks!
