Well purpose can be obscure as music such as Pink Floyd, Tool, or Yes or as obvious as LMFAO and the song "I'm Sexy and I Know It". There must have been a purpose for writing lyrics and music. You don't see people going into a recording studio making songs just for the hell of it. Even Rebecca Black's "Friday", I'm sorry, is about 'having fun'.
