Can you recommend me some metal, FJ? Some of my favorite bands are Metallica, Testament, Pantera, and Anthrax.
If it's any help, I'm constantly reminding myself to look into Sonata Arctica and Disturbed, among other things.

War of Ages (don't let their bible-hugger image fool you, they have some good shit)
Killswitch Engage (specifically the album As Daylight Dies)
Parkway Drive
In Flames
Bury Your Dead (the album It's Nothing Personal)
Trivium
Ghost Machine (Singer from Five Finger Death Punch's first band)
August Burns Red
Lamb of God
Mastodon (the album Crack the Skye)
Those are a handful of my faves, hope that helps

Try some of the slower genres out like doom and stoner metal. I would recommend St. Vitus, Black Sabbath ("Master of Reality" onward), and Uncle Acid and the Deadbeats for doom metal. I recommend Electric Wizard and Sleep for stoner metal.
But for faster stuff, go for power metal or thrash. Dio, Gamma Ray, and Iron Maiden are a must for power metal. With thrash, it seems you're covered, so I won't really need to give you much advice.
And if you're feeling old-fashioned, then listen to the first two Black Sabbath albums, Deep Purple's album "Machine Head," and an unknown little treasure called Sir Lord Baltimore ("Kingdom Come" is a must).
Enjoy.
