Shibe

plz criticize shit me and my drummer did a little while back.
I know the solo is sloppy, because it was improvised, and we basically made the whole thing in 5 minutes and thought our 1st take was good enough to put on soundcloud, so, what do you think, given the details?

17. Be calm - Fun. You also got this song from fun.

The Smiths - There is A Light That Never Goes out Don't know if this is really "upbeat". I've listened to so much sad music I've kinda lost sense as what's kinda upbeat and what isn't.

November Növelet - Dancing Queen Except really niche minimal synth that i know you'll say "what the fuck is this shibe" , I can't think of anything even CLOSE to that.

That's like, pretty specific. I only know pure industrial stuff.

www.youtube.com/watch?v=KRDJCppfkvE I mean there's andy stott, but it's electronic with no vocals. But it has a bit of a sad atmosphere with some rhythm-y industrial-esque beats.

So I've been working on this list of bands for a while now. If you're looking for something new, chances are you'll find something. It's got around 640 bands on it. It might be a little outdated as far as what I like. I add to it when I find something, so there's probably some stuff on there from a while ago that I don't like anymore. Anyways, I'll update it sometime in the future.

What do you think is the worse contribution to music?
My vote goes to harsh vocals. Sure they can be utilized well within intensity, but unfortunately like blast beats, they usually just muddily trudge along the length of song without any dynamics. 2raw4me I guess
User avatar #136120 to #136022 - drldrl (10 hours ago) [-]
Without harsh vocals we wouldn't have groove metal, the best metal.
User avatar #136100 to #136022 - citruslord (11 hours ago) [-]
I agree for the most part. Harsh vocals can be nice, but more often than not would be better without. And blast beats so often fall off beat and just create unnecessary noise.
Amon Amarth has some of the best Harsh vocals in my opinion, mainly because the music is melodic enough to carry it, and they stay understandable.
Amon Amarth - Cry Of The Black Birds

In regards to the original question however, wouldn't Autotune be in be in the running?
User avatar #136113 to #136109 - kaisakuenkou (11 hours ago) [-]
But how else would you sing like a robot?
Seriously though, It's just an effect, like reverb or flanging. Which is far worse than autotune, in my opinion and it isn't sonically unpleasant, just silly, like some other effects. Sometimes vocal modulation (with autotune) can even be well done. For me: Inaudible guttural vocals (produced by the false vocals chords) only sound good in traditional throat singing. (which they aren't even harsh)
User avatar #136116 to #136113 - citruslord (11 hours ago) [-]
It's not something I enjoy at all, but I don't like much else from metal, so I'm biased as all hell. I does seem there is a reliance on it at times to sound good.

Amon Amarth - "Cry of the Black Birds" - [High Quality] FINNTROLL - Under Bergets Rot (OFFICIAL VIDEO) Ensiferum - Battle Song I disagree. they give track power and intensity.
User avatar #136062 to #136059 - kaisakuenkou (16 hours ago) [-]
The first would have been intense enough with any vocals

The second was just silly, and the vocals didn't change that

In the third I felt more power and intensity from the clean vocals

Artist culture.
User avatar #136042 to #136033 - thebestpieever (17 hours ago) [-]
I think Artist Intention is a venom on music criticism and therefore music analysis. Similarly I think words like "Sellout" and the idea that passion immediately lends quality to any work are equally flawed. I believe in judging a work for what it is, and nothing more.
User avatar #136048 to #136042 - kaisakuenkou (16 hours ago) [-]
I thought you meant scenes/cliques

What do you mean Artist Intent=Venom? Things like very simply "It's supposed to bad"

Why isn't "Sellout" valid? Isn't that what it's called when a band progresses into a more pop oriented music, regardless if they make any money from said change?

What else could you judge it for?
User avatar #136063 to #136048 - thebestpieever (16 hours ago) [-]
I thought those were obvious, but mostly I think those are not a problem in and of itself but of what they cause. But I meant when you read things like "Korn got out of highschool 10 years ago and they still write about bullying when it's obvious that's not part of their life any more" or "Kiss are sixty years old and still write about partying and picking up chicks and it's ridiculous". Simply because, apparently, if an music artist is not just putting their immediate feelings to paper then it's hollow and dead and worthless.

Yes and no, I usually see it phrased as "they only do it for money" regarless of the musical direction of the band. Albeit, the lack of a consistent definiton doesn't bother me so much as the idea that I should care what the artist did before, after, or what their intentions are instead of the work itself. Sure, there's a place for a discussion of all that, but I think that place is not when discussing the merits and or failings of a work at all. If it should be used I think it should be used as a description, and not a passing of quality in any way, which it often is.

And publishing a work under the interpreter's name when none of the material is theirs only because they're now a brand that must be pushed. And people clamouring for x and y people coming back ot any band. Or "You know Nikki Sixx doesn't even play his bass, right?" being levelled as a criticism against Motley Crue. I really, really think that art should not be sensationalised. I am opposed to the idea and I think it holds it back. That's part of why I love literature. Because people spend eight months typing, then they publish it, then they seclude themselves for another year and do the same.
User avatar #136069 to #136063 - kaisakuenkou (16 hours ago) [-]
That last paragraph, about pushing material that may or not be theirs
What do you mean? That it should it just be judged for what is, even though it's more of a product than music and you're just giving an example as to what else it could be judged as?

This is also barely a musical contribution, by the way. More a side effect of society
User avatar #136084 to #136069 - thebestpieever (15 hours ago) [-]
No. I think you are conflating should and could. Any work can be judged in a myriad of ways. I just don't think it should. It can be used to illustrate a point in, say, political theory. But I don't think it should be judged as a work that illustrates or dejects political theory lest that's an actual focus of the work itself. In which case, that should still be evaluated only in how well it is presented and implemented. The conversation about grander implications can happen, and should, but not as a part of the evaluation of the work itself. Same goes with smaller elements like "what direction is this band going in".

You said to music, not musical contribution. And I think the way you study you formalise the theory of a work is part of the work. After all, books are made on the parameters of style guides.

If it's a purely sonic thing, then any and all software that is meant to remove "imperfections" or put in tone the voice of the singer. Because so far they all sound bland as fucking shit. God knows why, 'cause vocaloids sound neat.

I'm a big fan of Orange amps and noticed they're selling a guitar starter pack which comes with an amp and some other stuff, the guitar is a les Paul bodied in color Orange (they also have white which I don't like and black but i already have a black guitar, so I'd take the Orange, but first i want some advice on what do you guys think
