for god's sake every genre has ******* horrible artists and of course the genre looks horrible if you pay attention to nothing but the bad artists. rap in general has become something to cater to white suburban people which happened after the time tupac and biggie were shot. people thought it was cool to be gangster and we see what happened today.

you want some good rap? start with tupac or biggie and go from there. jay z is also a decent rapper in my opinion.

don't limit yourself to one genre. this is coming from someone who listens to marilyn manson, nine inch nails, Tupac, biggie, queen, bob dylan, niel young, pretty much anything that i find enjoyable

I listen to pretty much every genre but country.
It just doesn't mesh well with me.

The thing is.. he's the douchebag they support through the media. He's the one that people hear when they're new to the genre and it discourages them from even WANTING to dig deeper.

I'm a hip-hop head, and I also create my own...and I won't go anywhere near the radio r tv's options for my genre. But, I also know where to look and whom to look for. Some kid turning on the tv doesn't.

That said: here's some suggestions for stuff I personally find merit in.

Grieves, Brother Ali, Atmosphere (whom are all 3 under the same label), Cunninlynguists, Sadistik, Wrekonize (of mayday), Eyedea (rest in peace), Big Krit, and although they're pretty well known at this point, Outkast has some brilliant work in their catalog.
