Well, scientifically speaking, "Now" is anywhere between the present moment and some obscure date in the 50's when the amount of carbon polluting the air makes it impossible to date anything based on radioactive decay. Anything between then and the present is virtually impossible to date because of the pollutants, so by that method, now is a fairly relative term.

Well, yeah..... but not without basically starting a timer. Dating things going back thousands millions sometimes billions of years is not exactly down to the minute precise. Carbon 14, with a half life of 5730 years, has been proven to be accurate within 150 years of 45,000 yr old fossils. Barring things such as volcanic eruptions and asteroid impact, that's more accurate than written Mayan calendar from their ruins.
To put it this way, that's going to be more accurate than your wristwatch ticking away the seconds.
