Well if you *********** didn't like praying to a "god" that tells you to kill people then you wouldn't have this problem.

Rather than Templar Christmas, it's more like Crusade Christmas. Templar was a knighthood order that was part of the first crusades, but not all the crusades had templar intervention . The templars were just a part of the Crusades, that are the Christian equivalent of the muslim Jihad. If the kid was called Al-Qaeda Ramadan, your comparison would be more correct.

seriously comparing the Templars to Al-Qaeda ?

a more correct one would be mujhadeen ramadan or Ḥashshāshīn ramadan

I could even have said "ghazis ramadan" or whatever, but my point was Holy War + Holiday =/= "Holy Warriors" + Holiday

It's a more correct comparison because they all fought for their ideas. I don't defend what Al-Qaeda does if that's what you're implying, but Al-Qaeda fights for their jihad so it's a more correct comparison than what anon did. Not the best, that's true. But not that wrong.

jihad was around before al-qaeda, it just means holy war, as in what they called the crusades. So i would say his comparison is pretty good.

It doesn't even mean holy war, it just means a struggle for Allah, in any manner. The fights during the crusades were Jihads, as are the pilgrimages that Muslims are supposed to make during their lives, and even their routine of worship.

Thanks for sharing that... it's just made me realise how a Jihad isn't necessarily a bad thing, which is what I would think considering the way it's been portrayed in the West.

Jihad means to "strive". Jihad is when anyone tries to overcome evil. Such as one who overcomes the act of lying, drinking, etc.

It means 'struggle' or 'resisting', not 'holy war'.

Jihad doesn't strictly mean "holy war", it's actually an arabic word that means "exerting most effort".

in the old times the holy war would be called "Al Jihad Fe Sabil Allah" which would roughly translate to "exerting most effort for the lord", but since that specific word wasn't used much for other purposes it is common these days to refer to the holy war as Jihad alone. the word itself dates back way before Islam itself since it uses simple word structure in Arabic to add the 'most' part and to put it in the form you see.

It also means "struggle"

There was a poor man at my mother's company with the name "Muhammad Jihad" who slept on the floor of the office at night. I can't imagine how hard it must have been for him to board a plane.

I was unaware of that. But even so, with the Muslim extremists like ISIS running around declaring Jihad on anything and everything, it's an unfortunate modern name.

No doubt. It's also scary to hear "allahu akbar". I mean, I don't hate Muslims at all, and I even defend them on the news forums but if I were sitting next to a man on a plane and he said that (a common praise that doesn't mean anything bad by itself) I'd probably punch him across the face before he could finish (or more realistically hit the floor).

Jihad means "to strive". It means to overcome sins and bad traits within. Such as trying to change from a liar to a truthful person. This is jihad.
