He makes me proud to be a Catholic. He lives by what Christ taught--love, acceptance, and forgiveness--and is making the Church once again a symbol of Christian unity and the Christian message.

Yeah. He does good things and is trying to make the church follow what they preach.

I'm an atheist but I respect him because he interprets the bible correctly. He is truly about equality, fairness, and freedom of expression. I'd shake his hand thoroughly.

I have the strangest feeling that I could actually just walk up to this guy... just ******* walk up to him and ask him to tell me how he came to Know that God exists... and he'd just tell me. Then I'd give him a high-five and buy him a subway sammich. New life goals, they're not high but I got 'em.

As far as I can tell, religion doesn't particularly determine whether a person is good/bad.
Hitler was a Catholic
Stalin was an Atheist
Osama was a Muslim
and so on and so forth. I'm an atheist, but I have been paying attention to this guy, and as far as I can tell, he's a good guy by my book. So long as someone is a decent person and isn't an overall dick/cunt, I'm not going to hate them for their beliefs.
User avatar #17 to #16 - suxferyu (02/07/2014) [-]
that's the pope's philosophy as well. just because you don't belonmg to a certain religion doesn't make you bad, and just because you do belong top one doesn't make you good either

Apparently the pope actually blessed the former stripper's 1 year old daughter, so the man gave this bird to the pope as a thank-you present. And when the parrot stepped onto the pope's hand, it squawked "papa," which is Italian for pope.

No one gives a **** if you're an atheist and like the pope.
Every time that I see an atheist say something like "Wow I'm an atheist but this guy is awesome!" That comes off kind of like you're either looking for attention or don't like Christians because of your disbelief.
That's like me saying "Holy **** I like MLK, and I'm a white guy!"
What I'm getting at is:
1. Don't self-identify yourself without a genuine reason
and
2. Don't like them because of what they are, look at who they are. Remember that we're all humans and you shouldn't go as far as to characterize one another as if we're all different species...
...unless you're Muslim. Then you can go **** yourself...or a goat.
Gotta draw the line somewhere.
just yankin' your chain

Being that he is the pope, you do realize that he is a creationist? Because I've seen at least 5 posts today that would make him a horrible person based on that fact alone according to you guys
#36 to #29 - kingpongthedon (02/07/2014) [-]
The argument isn't whether or not Creation occurred, which is not currently a testable hypothesis, but whether or not Young Earth Creation is a valid model, which is provably false. If you get upset over Creationism, you have no business in science to begin with as you are going into your hypothesis with presuppositions not based on testable data. If you hang on to Young Earth Creationism, then you are ignoring the massive supply of data that proves it false. It's not all Creationists that we have a problem with, just a very specific sect of them.

Furthermore, the Catholic Church, and therefore the Pope, follows the Abrahamic tradition of interpretation. The Bible, though divinely inspired, was written and translated by man and is thus subject to man's imperfections, it should not be interpreted literally. It serves as a rough guide to communicate divine concepts to mortals. Ultimately the only source of true knowledge is through God Himself, not any book tainted by man. The Pope, and the Catholic Church's, stance on Creationism is in no way conflicting with scientific evidence. In fact the currently accepted theory for the origins of the universe is based upon the works of a Catholic priest. In addition to that, the Church is the largest private patron of science. Science explains the hows, religion explains the whys. They deal with separate issues. As long as your beliefs aren't actively obstructing scientific progress which I assure you is the exact opposite of what the Pope is doing , why would we care?

Isn't there a festival in Mexico somewhere where children dye their pets/young livestock pretty colors and bring them to the local church to be blessed?
