it's a mix of both. Introverts obviously don't have fun at parties, so a party of exclusively introverts sounds like a flawless plan for an excellent night.

I'm a forced introvert. I got so use to being ignored and left out of everything it feels weird to me when I'm out with friends.
#186 - twistedwoodthing (01/27/2014) [-]
I've seen an awful lot of introvert posts lately, and although I enjoy and even identify with some of them, it worries me that people sometimes wear it as an excuse not to socialize, or even as a kind of badge of pride (characterizing extroverts as flaky, obsessed with partying and other people).
For one thing, it's not cut and dried, you're not likely to be fully one or the other. Furthermore, neither one's better than the other, just different. Extroverts need to be patient, Introverts need to be open to socializing, sometimes.

tl;dr Introverts don't dislike socializing, introverts usually just really hate idle chit-chat and stagnant small talk, and enjoy places where it can simply be them alone with their own thoughts, because people, especially huge groups, normally don't allow them

I mean, introverts don't dislike socializing in general, introverts simply need their time alone, it's a sort of inner balance. When they're around other people, they often can't talk about all the things they want to talk about, or understand the purpose of what other people are saying. In other words, most introverts hate idle, social, stagnant small talk, which in itself you can indeed consider with pride. On the inside, introverts may prefer to talk about ideas or concepts or issues, rather, things they consider wholly important or fascinating, while Joe talks about how Shirley sucked off Derek last night.

I mean, in some cases, just because you hate big parties doesn't make you introverted. Maybe they're not introverts, maybe they just hate loud, crowded places filled with people mostly acting like morons and letting go of their normal restraints, and would prefer to be around people completely in control of their own actions.

But you know, whatever.
The two can be mutually exclusive as well, which works great for some people.
User avatar #205 to #195 - shitposts (01/27/2014) [-]
what a pretentious thing to say. you can socialize with people, and still have a mind to think about bigger or more important stuff. you don't have to be an introvert to talk about concepts and ideas. and you don't have to be an extrovert to talk about mundane aid unimportant stuff.

you can't help being intro or extro, and being either doesn't decide your level of intelligence.

User avatar #206 to #200 - twistedwoodthing (01/27/2014) [-]
But then I would have missed out on the full pretentiousness of the entire comment. It was precisely what I'm talking about - disdaining social people and extending the term "introvert" to mean "smart people who like good parties".
User avatar #214 to #206 - DANEATSfatKIDS (01/27/2014) [-]
Introversion and extroversion are not things that can be exactly measured. It's just having more than another I think. I wouldn't know since I am not an expert it's just what I've heard. From more observations I've seen more and more people seeing introversion as some sort of ultra-romanticized thing. It's as if being set off from the crowd makes one special. Which in some cases can be true, for example if you're set off from a crowd that is doing something terrible then you can consider yourself above them in action. However, this is a thing neither good nor bad, so one cannot be better than another. However, I don't really know about the Myers-Briggs(I think) personality types very well so I have no idea.
User avatar #218 to #206 - bronybox (01/27/2014) [-]
Psychology defines an introvert as somebody characterized by concern with mostly his or her own thoughts at feelings, meaning that they are usually also very reflective, and do not empathize with others well. Being an introvert does not mean you are not social.

To be completely frank, no matter how pretentious it may sound, yes, introverts tend to be smart more often than not, however it does NOT mean that extroverts are NOT smart, extroverts can be just as intelligent, and often, being an extrovert actually helps their intelligence as they can get a larger viewpoint as well as spreading their own thoughts to others, like I said at the end, the concepts are mutually exclusive.

In this same way, yes, some introverts don't have to be intelligent, I've just found from personal experience that many of them are, but whether or not they choose to develop it is once again another story.
User avatar #222 to #218 - twistedwoodthing (01/27/2014) [-]
It's neither against the existence of introverts, or some of their more admirable qualities, that I'm arguing. It's the tone of superiority I've seen in the dialogue that bothers me. The kind of "they're all douches who want to talk about the club, while I'm just here thinking silent, glorious thoughts." Like we introverts are all Romantic-era heroes or something.

People will use anything as a badge. I know a few people who use their mental illness as as a badge of honor. They're all like "Hey! Look at me! I'm ******* nuts, everyone! Look at how ******* special i am!".
Having nothing else, people will identify with, and feel pride in, the silliest things. Even if those things are actually detrimental to their overall person.

How appropriate, I just beat Dark Souls for the first time on ps3 like 20 minutes ago. I had it at realease but couldn't focus on one character. I have like 6 level 80's, but then I got it on pc and beat the hell out of it, and went back on ps3 and started on a sorc of mine that was stuck at Seath. I killed him first try and rolled through the last 5 bosses/optional bosses in about 4 hours. Goddamn I love Dark Souls.

User avatar #240 to #235 - jaynsilentbob (01/27/2014) [-]
Well the one i worked on was called 'the clearing' but that's premiering in London on the 25th of February and may or may not be put online but it was a really small production. About 16 of us in total. Plus its a short film, i forgot to mention that. Well with the indie films it all depends what you want to watch because you can have big budget indie films from Hollywood or you can get the self funded films from young directors trying to get discovered. I recommend 'El mariachi' by Robert Rodriguez, the same guy who did Sin City. It was his first film and he shot it on a budget of just $7,000. Or a Film Trey Parker and Matt Stone (South Park creators) did while in college called 'Cannibal the Musical' although that had a much bigger budget than El mariachi.

This goddamn point exactly. Parties usually suck, loud obnoxious music, and mostly superficial d-bags, i hate the setting, but my close friends make it tolerable. I feel most comfortable, when it is us in a small group drinking/talking/vidyagaming whatever.

I'm even worse than all of that. I just sit by myself hoping that one really pretty girl will come up and talk to me, because there's no way I could go up and talk to her. And I end up just wasting the entire night thinking of what I'd say if she came up to me, and she never does and I leave all depressed and mad at myself for being such a little bitch.

its funny that before, everyone hated introverts and made fun of them for paying to much games or being a loner or being obsessed with something like computers or math. now its like, "oh you a gamer, wow i think its awesome that you want to stay inside and not want to go to parties. your pretty much a genius". its everywhere you go online, its getting as bad as people are pretending to be an introvert because its cool.
