I had that done a couple days ago. I used to pry the nail out and it felt GODLY. But then I had the stripping surgery on the nails and had it covered and soaked in salt water to cleanse it. Never has there been a feeling like prying the nail out of its little socket and feeling the empty area. Best surgery ever.

Well, like I said, I had both the sides of the nail removed, perhaps your friend had the entire nail removed?

I had to wear this bandage on my toe for about 6 weeks, I had to soak my toe in salt-water every day for about 5 minutes and change the bandage and I had to avoid shoes, I could wear them, but I had to even it out by exposing my foot to the air.

Honestly man, whatever you get done, the temporary annoyance of working that stuff into your routine is well worth the relief, not to mention the longer you leave it the worst it becomes and the more chance of an infection you can get.

Go straight to a chiropodist and say you want it sorted out. In the beginning I went, got the sides cut and was told to let it grow out again. This happened 3 times because each time the nail became ingrown so after the third time my chiropodist decided it'd be best to just kill the roots and so far my nail looks perfectly fine, I've had no pain, no infections and I can walk without wanting to punch someone.

my dad he's a doctor was the one who operated on my ingrown toenail. it was all pretty straightforward. shots of local anesthesia and i lost sensation in my toe. i could feel them poking around in there but felt no pain; you know what i mean right?

roots killed, snuck in a little tetanus shot just to be careful. Stitched up.

Post-op is a bitch though. I was taking mild pain relievers to stop the pain. It felt like my toe was detached or something like that. I had to wear bandages over it and I couldn't wear shoes.

I had an elder doctor near retirement do the surgery, I actually think I was his last patient. He had pulled out my nail before (without surgery) and from the anesthesia kicked in it took him 15 seconds to pull out my nail.

Also didnt feel a thing apart from this werid sensation when he scratched the bone in my toe to clear it from nail roots.. Hurt like hell when the anesthesia wore off though

i also did some things to relieve the pain back when it was ingrown.
step 1) Clip nail, BUT NOT FULLY!
step 2) grab hanging clipping
step 3) pull towards the outward direction but also towards the ingrown part
step 4) a little bit of pain mixed with relief
step 5) sniff the clipping

i dont recommend this method

when it grows back out it will **** you up..

I heard that one should never clip the sides of the nail only the tip/peak..

and to counter inflamation take long footbaths with soap and jerk the ingrown part of your nail slightly upwards afterwards

dude, the removal of the root hurt like hell.
i got 3 ******* syringes stabbed into my toe for local anesthesthingy (where you don't feel anything), i thing she poked my bone with it, and it didn't even work properly.
needles to say, it felt like a knife scratching sandpaper.

Going to tell you a story most people will probably not believe, or believe is exaggerated

I had 2 ingrown toenails (big toe), while getting the root cut off of one, I had 11 count them 11 syringes put into my toe for local anesthetic, for some reason and I **** you not the syringe would go THROUGH my toe and the anesthesia would leak outside on the floor. I asked the doc if that was normal and he said not to worry.

My toe being sore from the shots, combined with the very good air conditioning made my toe cold and pretty tender, it got so bad that my mom took me and walked away. We later rescheduled with this old doc, who only needed one to numb me properly (usually takes two).

When I was young my older brother had an ingrown toenail... He kept trying to dig it out with a knife from the kitchen.
He then proceeded to leave the knives on the floor for little ol me to find on the top of the staircase. and I wouldnt be suprised if he left it back in the drawer without cleaning it.
Knowing him that is.

I feel your pain... Had 7 done so far with only 1 side being truly fixed, sucks ****. Your socks may be too tight, or your shoes. Also, try putting a little piece of cotton under the side ingrown. This can actually get rid of them, works for some but takes a couple of months.

What they do is they numb the area around your toe, and then they dig into the root, cut it out and then inject a type of I think it was "root" killer which prevents it for happening for ten years.
