Although plants need certain amounts of electrolytes like we do, they don't crave them. They simply die, grow smaller, or don't produce fruit if they don't have enough of them.

if anything, ray bradbury, author of Farenheit 451, hit it dead on.
The book is set in a society where everything is electronic, everyone is politically correct, and no one reads to the point that books are outlawed.
This was written in the 1950's. And that's what scares me most.

Sadly, intelligence is recessive. Over time, recessive genes all but disappear from the gene pool, if you mix with dominant genetics. It's why Africans are,,, African, Asians are Asian, their dominant genetics erase most others. And the more 'stupid' breeders there are, mixing in, the faster the decent to ‘area based’ genetic stupidity... This is why your forefathers sought and fought to separate races to their own cultures. It has nothing to do with racism, only survival. So your premise is factually incorrect...Unfortunate but true...

George Orwell wrote the novel "1984"
Aldous Huxley wrote "Brave New World"
Both are kind of predictions of humanity's future. To summarize, 1984 has the government regulating and controlling everything, including human thoughts , and Brave New World has people genetically and developmentally conditioned to not only suit but also enjoy a pre-designated role in society and if they're not happy, they just do drugs until they are .

Orwell wrote a famous novel called 1984 that depicts a dystopian future where the government literally rules everything by excessive means of censorship and spying, such as having cameras implanted into people's televisions to monitor them, and if they so much as frown at the TV they're arrested/sent off to a camp.

I'm not 100% sure on Huxley, but I'm pretty sure he wrote of our luxuries/possessions ruling us, or rather the government easing us into a sense of security to the point where they can manipulate us into doing whatever they want. (Again, don't quote me on this, I could be completely wrong in every way)

Think about it, though. Smart, successful people are more likely to focus on their careers, delay having children, use birth control properly, etc. We live in a world where the dumb are *more* likely to reproduce, rather than *less* as it should be, because we've eliminated natural selection close to entirely.

(Though, as a counter-point to that, all the smart cookies we still have in the world today have made great strides in genetically engineering smarter, stronger, and faster rats--if they keep that up, it may cease to be a problem in the distant-but-foreseeable future.)

Actually the fact that natural selection has nearly been stopped is a myth. At todays rate humanity is changing at least a hundredfold faster than what we did in the stone age. This is due to the fact that we are 7 billion people. Which = more mutations to choose from. Also, tall, thin people with big eyes are a lot more likely to have children which in turn will let their children become tall, thin, with big eyes.

Natural selection refers specifically to adapting for ones' environment, and that those who are better adapted for survival are more likely to reproduce.

In this world, as long as you're at least moderately healthy, mental traits are most important--and those who are smarter, more successful, and more intelligent are less likely to reproduce, or at the very least, to reproduce in higher numbers. Which means we are no longer adapting in a positive manner, which means what we are doing can no longer be described as 'natural selection.' What we've got is a bastardized version of purely sexual selection.

Honestly I'm more disgusted at the abbreviation of the word 'Mountain'. But yeah, Idiocracy is about the worst-case scenario for mankind. Zombies? We can overcome that. Oppression? We can overcome that. Absolute extinction? Well at least we've left details about how great a civilisation we were for any alien visitors to find + DNA records so we could hopefully be brought back.

But idiocracy? The total decay of civilisation? Not only does mankind continue to exist but he continually degrades further and further. No aliens would ever see the Earth as anything other than a failure. There would be no coming back for mankind.

It was idiots that burned Joan D'arc. It was idiots that burned the library at Alexandria. It was idiots that stoned homosexuals to death. It is still idiots who point and jeer at Honey Boo-boo because she was born into a life of... Boo-boo-ness.

*sigh* I just hope the internet can continue to make the world a better place as it has done ever since it began existing.

So boohoo there are things in the world that make you uncomfortable, stupid **** like that has existed for years in different forms but you never really heard about it. You're only realizing what the world is really like now because of the advancements in technology allowing us to see what stupid **** someone could be doing on the other side of the world.

If you really are afraid of the future because of things that were depicted in the content then you really need to reevaluate your fears. Yeah, humanity is ****, but if you focus only only the negatives then all your gonna see is ****; but then, I can't blame you, because people are just naturally more attracted to the things that grind their gears. There's a lot of neat **** out there that's putting humanity forward and making the world a better place. Sure, we may take a step forward and take one or more steps back, but at least we're walking.
And if you don't like the way the world is, do your part to help it.

Whether Huxley's story is scary or not depends on SPOILER WARNING (YES, THIS IS ABOUT THE CLIMAX) what the "Island" entails. Is it truly a place where people who DO want to avoid ignorance come together, or is it a prison/concentration camp? (The latter would just be stupid for a government that governed its people so cleverly. Why avoid all those scientific advances in fear of something which is almost impossible to go out of control, because everybody would get what he/she wants.) So, what is that island? Paradise or Prison? I didn't get it. (only read the book btw)
